Was Nadal really that tired after getting a walkover?

I didn't say that. I just think it's a lot of pressure to play in front of your home crowd. Gosh you take every little thing as an excuse and not just part of the conditions Nadal deals with.
Yeah, that's why every time Nadal plays Davis Cup matches at home, he loses.:roll:

As far as the Madrid crowd goes, it's true. He does appear less comfortable in front of the Madrid crowd. It would be like a player from Iowa having to play in Washington in front of the President and a bunch of movie stars, etc. in a match of national importance. It's not really his element.

nice analogy. He is always a little too anxious to win in front of the spanish crowds. But he gets some nice home crowd support so it probably evens out in the end.

Yet, I don't think Nadal has ever lost a Davis Cup match in Spain.

Walkovers can be very devastating to one's health. Imagine Nadal sitting around playing video games all day. He could get a blister on his thumb! And then his whole game is shot to hell...

That's unless he was playing Virtua Tennis 3, created a Djokovic character, and beat him.

Anybody who uses the excuse that Madrid was fake clay and hence Nadal's loss should go SHUT UP and NEVER reply to people who use the grass in Wimby having slowed down as an excuse for Fed's 08 defeat. I'm sick of the hypocrisy from *******s.

I think Nadal actually gets more nervous in front of his fans. He seems to prefer a more Fed fan crowd. lol See RG for what I mean.

Because of the altitude and fake claycourt Rafa struggled to return Fed's serve.

You know the phrase, "Excuses are like a..holes, everyone has one". I thought Rafa couldn't be beaten on ANY court? At least that is what some posters like to think.

The tired excuse is a joke. The guy is 22 years old. He practices harder than that. Now if someone wants to claim the mental fatigue of being #1 is becoming a factor, that might sell. It's got to be more pressure than is even imaginable to guys like us. Just listen to the older guys like Pete talk about it.

He maybe does but not during a tournament. That would be stupid to practice like that before a match.

Umm.. I saw Nadal practice for 3 hours straight at Indian Wells this year. No time outs no breaks, nothing. He just kept at it. When Robredo was taking a rest he served NON STOP.

Was he doing sprints? Now that is intense stuff that would be best to avoid during a tournament.

Who cares. You don't know what he does, niether does anyone else.

Being a fan is one thing.

Being a friggen know-it-all is another!

The guy got beat. So what.

Why all the nonsense about why?
We all know Fed can't beat Nadal on clay under normal circumstances. That's why. Too poor of a matchup for Fed.

BTW, Nadal practices harder than he plays, and stays out there for a few hours at a time, and then goe out a few hours later and plays a match. Go learn something.

He was playing a very intense match with Robredo (who was causing him all sort of problems). When Robredo was resting, Nadal was serving non-stop. He didn't take a rest in that whole period except for a couple of minutes a few times to have a drink and towel off. That was in some hot sun too.

He practices VERY hard during tournaments. Way harder than any of the other players I've seen there.

No, we don't all know that. And when is any match ever played under "normal circumstances"?

Or do you mean like we all know that Nadal can't beat Federer on grass under "normal circumstances"?
