Nadal will be daft to travel to Paris for a meaningless ATP tournament. 2 risks for him - injuring his knees and perhaps even exposing himself to COVID.
Novak is smart to sit it out.

Djokovic can’t gain any point here, that’s the only reason he decided not to play it.

That rule is dumb. I'm not saying it because it benefits Nole, it's generally dumb. Why is Nole keeping his 1,000 points from a masters win in 2019, while Nadal didn't gain a single point from winning an GS tournament a few weeks ago (I know that's according to the usual rules, but it just makes no sense to me that they keep points from tournaments that are played)? That means winning a GS has basically the same impact as skipping a tourney.

Wear masks and keep distance from each other in public. And wash hands frequently. If everyone did that none of these painful shutdowns would be necessary. The crucial holiday season is coming up and if you truly don't want another hemorrhaging of the economy then do your damn duty as a citizen. It's really not that hard, people.

It's not about Djokovic being smart, it's about him skipping Paris because he can keep the 1000 points from last year. If he would lose his points he would have went to Paris instead of Vienna, or played both. So let's not talk about being smart.

I am willing to fight for my country! I am willing to die for my country! I am willing to do anything for my country! Except wear a simple mask over my face

RG should have been cancelled. French goverment delayed the lockdown by few weeks - this ill thought decision gonna produce long standing (negative) impact on Tennis history.

Not so sure about that. I live in Spain, pretty much everyone's wearing masks/distancing, and still we're one of the most affected countries in the world.

It seems airborne transmission in closed spaces may be a much bigger factor than originally thought. Which is bad news for offices and many other workplaces.

Spain is one of the most visited countries in the world. Barring a full travel ban it's bound to have more cases per capita than, say, Serbia or New Zealand.

And yes, indoor transmission will be a serious concern in the upcoming holiday/winter season. I'm hoping it'll be mitigated by more people staying home to keep warm, but we'll see.

Negative impact in the sense Rafa solidified his clay GOAT status but this win hardly elevated his overall status. Had Rafa won 20th at AO it would have meant a lot in debates.
Thanks for making it clear why you rooted for Djoko in the FO final, Fed devotee.

TennisActu (excerpt, translated from French via Google): "The Rolex Paris Masters is currently in the unknown. After Emmanuel Macron's announcements on Wednesday evening, the French Tennis Federation announced Wednesday evening to the ATP that the Rolex Paris Masters will be held entirely behind closed doors. But for the moment, the continuation of the tournament is not assured. The FFT is awaiting the government's decision this Thursday afternoon at the earliest."

CNN, Oct. 29: ¤¤ Sports minister Roxana Mărăcineanu announced in a speech to the country's National Assembly on Thursday that despite the country going into lockdown for the next four weeks, professional sport France would receive an exemption.
