We really are lucky to be witnessing such an era with 2 tier 1 greats competing against each other. it is the first time in the open era such high quality players are playing at the same time. Here are some things to drool at.

-in the last 10 years 5 of them have been dominated by either federer or nadal (2004-2007 fed, 2008,2010,2013 rafa)
-probably the only male players in the open era to have seasons in which they reach the final of every tournament they enter bar one (fed 2006 and rafa 2013)
-30 grand slams, 47 masters 1000 and 6 WTF(soon to be 7 i hope if rafa wins his first) in just 12 years (since fed won his first master in 2002). also 404+ weeks at the top more than any pair in history
-complete domination of the filed more than any pair in history of open era

By the looks of it nadal will probably finish 1st and federer 2nd in the open era.

seriously, it would be a novelty, to see someone simply not list either above the other and be grateful we had both in a rivalry.

I know. Great feats for both. If only each fan bases will appreciate both players in good light. But who am I kidding. Each fan base has their bad apples, what a shame. Haha, just glad to have witnessed two legendary players.

Alllleeeez Roger !! Vamos Rafa !!

Hardly the first time in the open era two giants have slugged it out. As the open era began in the late 60s, Laver and Emerson were both at the top of the list of all time slam champions, and were still battling it out with each other, and also teaming up in doubles. THAT was something to see!

Amazing post!!! I really miss the good old days back in 2004-2007 when the top two were Federer and Nadal and they were just dominating year after year!

Yup Mike, and when these guys go, i think we're going to face a little dry spell until the next great player that will stand out amongst the rest of the crop. If you think about it, if Novak, Nadal and Fed weren't playing, it would be very boring tennis. And it's been about 10 years that we haven't seen anyone special emerge except for those three and the last cropping was Sampras and Agassi.

Personally, I wouldn't even mind if someone just copied nadal, but the competition just hasn't elevated itself to top tier. It's good, but not great or excellent. It's gonna be a bit stale when these guys go. I can't imagine a world where guys like Tsonga and Berdych would have wons slams if Nole, roger, and Rafa weren't taking them out before the finals.

I love high competition, but good things don't last forever.

The good old days when Roger ruled the world, and Rafa had am easily 3 GS to his name! Yep, that's when Roger ruled the world, even if he didn't rule Rafa!

No matter what folks post here, all the major sports put out the h2h everytime they may play.
