Not afraid to admit, I've never seen that word. "Governed by chance" in my little desk Webster.
I used the word "besmirch" today in conversation. Was pretty proud of that. Got a laugh from my tennis friends.

Success is definited different for each person! For some, the goal is to be rich, for others it to have a great family and others it to make an impact on the world to make it a better place for future generations. You can have it ll too. Just know what you want before you begin or else you will be lost and unhappy in your life’s journey. Do what makes you happy is first primary goal in life since you will be doing it on a daily basis for a long time. Most people do not think about this before the start their vocation. Then after 40, it pretty hard to chance your course if you are married and have children.

I’d say first is being happy with what you have, but second would be being happy with the small successes and achievements. I don’t feel sad about the fact I can’t run for hours on end, I feel happy with my small achievements like adding on to my distance per run, or how fast my mileage is. Though happiness is personal to how you define it, I think everyone can be happy.

Never be afraid of failure, and give 110 % in all endeavors. But problem with too many americans is that they are Lazy so they only give about 70 % of their effort and sometimes they don't even try due to fear of failure

Well, I've been on death's doorstep. Excruciating, indescribable pain.
Makes you find "success" in all manner of places. Simple solutions to problems... actualization of ideas... pushing beyond boundaries. It's endless.

According to OP, Van Gogh is successful because we look at him that way, nevermind his thankless unrealized life. Survival is irrelevant according to OPs worldview. Your state of mind let alone physical state is meaningless, only we decide how we look at you.
Again the standard that constitutes success OP will not or can not define but he wants us to help him get to a point he doesnt know.
