What are your tennis quirks?

Sureshs prefers hairy fuzzy balls.

Good to know ... actually, not good to know. That said, we all get pleasure from tennis in different ways. Some might like the faster serve from the least fuzzed up ball ... others like cupping ... I just can't finish that thought.

Does this type of dialogue really help TW's racquet sales ... or maybe ball sales?

Sureshs 'drawers' are humongous, they are even bigger than Federer's.

You should advance that quirk up a couple of levels ... pummel that sandbagger on a changeover... and he will give you a good warmup next time.

Not so easy lately to find 4.0+ player's to hit with, so I'm desperate enough to put up with it for a little while. Worse, they don't even try in warmups, they just block it short and angled to make me run or end the rally. But when they PLAY, scoring involved, they hit hard, deep, and consistent. And they're better than me.

Sounds like jerks. Maybe take more net warmup than usual ... should cut down some of their nonsense.

Thanks, might try net warmups.
I usually don't, as they're in a rush to play the set, and give as little warmup as possible. I'm sure they're just chop it high with no pace, so I don't get grooved on their hard topspin passing shots. Yeah, these are the same guys who insist on partnering with the second best of the foursomes, against me and the worse....which can be me, of course.

Sewretchian balls are heavy and cold...kinda like those old Tretorn pressureless stones after being left in a car trunk overnight in the winter. He has boasted of using them as cooling devices for boiling cups of tea. How's that for "cupping"???

I only use Wilson US Open Tennis balls (either regular or extended duty). They feel the best and easiest on the wrist and arm. I make sure I always get two cans of them whenever I play.

I predominantly use Yonex overgrip - I might occasionally try Babolat grips and Sampras "O" dampner. Of course, when dampner pops off from a shank, I literally get PARANOID looking for it.

Same here. I order a case of the Wilson USO heavy duty from TW.

I started using these balls once I found that they bounced the highest. It has helped my improve my 1 handed BH response to high balls.

You should play on clay if you are wishing to improve your backhand's ability to swat away high balls.

I played on clay today and felt sympathy for you and Federer.

I don't wear red for any match I consider important.
It's very silly. I lost my first final as a junior, and happened on my horoscope in the local paper (I'd already played the final earlier that day) and it said avoid the colour red. My tennis shirt had a red trim on the collar - you had to wear predominantly white). So clearly that was why I lost!).
I've rarely read my horoscope since, BUT only wear red for social tennis.
Crazy!

If you play against Sureshs, avoiding red won't save you, for multiple reasons.

Thank you for getting back to the OP's (brilliant guy) original inquiry ... "quirks" ... not Suresh's deviant behavior

I have been having a color issue also. Because of Trump, I have quarantined all orange clothing in my closet. I take this personally ... considering my alma mater is Oklahoma State.

I don't understand any of that ... which probably proves your point. :)
If you sniff your balls like Cibulkova and they smell like Sewretch's without you passing out, then you have passed the Vortexian initiation. I would suggest, however, investing in a TSV-approved gas mask to prevent a medical emergency. My latest design of the masks is less cumbersome and offers betterer visual acuity so you can play smooth like Sewretch.:p:D

You realize if you type Cibulkova in your post, it's all I can really focus on... the rest fades to background noise. For example ... what I got out of your post was "sniff Cibulkova".

this thread started as something that might be interesting to read,... then after the underwear comment, went downhill fast...

Help save my thread NYTA ... post some of your quirks. Start with that mini-tennis quirk. Actually, I thought of you and mini tennis when I saw this the other day ... now there is some non-bunt mini tennis.

lol, ok...
quirks:
* always try to start with mini tennis... not the bunt kind, but with short backswing, full follow through, and lots of topspin
* always use headband, and wristbands... feel naked with out it
* hate playing indoors/outdoors at night, if i can help it (my vision is not great, i hate wearing glasses because they steam up but would rather play than not play)
* prefer to play a new can if i can every time
* i have a pet peeve with folks that are late, and don't call (i'll give a 15m grace period, then i'll leave, and we won't play again) - ie. tells me you don't care about my time, only yours
* pet peeve with folks trying to win practice (hitting away (when i'm hitting everything to you), letting balls go out without hitting it or stopping it (when i'm trying to get eveyrthing back))
* cheaters.. close calls where I'm not in position to call, i'll presume it was out anyway, but if i am in position (eg. if the ball is on the line (eg. T serve), or sideline when I hit a down the line winner and i have the best vantage), and you're out of posiition, and you typically don't give the benefit of the doubt... we won't play together anymore (because now i'll presume every close call is going against me).
* i'll always clear balls - including between 1st and 2nd... (some folks won't because it interrupts their serving rhythm)
* for the last couple years, i've taken notes after every hitting session

Good job ... back on quirk-track ... at least for a second.

- Even if it's frickin cold, I will be wearing a wrist band ...usually both wrists. Will wear tie head band under hat on a hot day
- never had good night or indoor tennis vision... then had Lasik (actually twice) mid-30s ... went from 11.0 diopters to pretty much 20/20 for 20+ years, just now started to fade
- now Lasik faded a bit, have slight astigmatism ... still not nearsighted, but it has really hurt indoor tennis (which, I really don't play much anymore)... don't even try night tennis. So back to wearing prescription sunglasses ... or glasses if cloudy. Not really as much problem as I expected (wore hard contacts forever ... never played tennis in glasses before) ... but do get some sweat on lenses. If I wear the headband under the hat outdoors, that usually works fine. I did have a rude awakening last fall playing team tennis ... Oct/Nov ... showed up for a match and glasses fogged over. Hated that ... would just go get soft contacts for tennis ... but the Lasik left a slight abnormal surface/astigmatism, so soft won't get it done. I know what will ... but they are $1500 for sclera gas permeable (Larger than standard gas perms). Not now.
- of course new can
- yeah, you are a bit more wound on the warm up thing ... :)
- I have no rhythm so clearing balls works
- played two decades of doubles leagues where the outside of the line was out ... I am now numb to calls :)
- notes ... you should tell your opponents the notes are about them. I had a standing weekly singles match for years with a friend that was a shrink ... I always thought he was "working me" on change overs.
