Why don't you give us a short review about why yet another book about the 'cultural wars' is any different from the thousands that preceded it?

it was a pleasant reading
the posture of the author wasn't too 'empire-biased' even you can (mildly) feel that if it was written during colonial times, of course.
she rathers chooses to focus on her contemplation of the (resplendiscent!) nature, her/our place in all this, and enjoys to be far from everything...

This led to somewhat of a more chastened view of wildlife.

Maybe her French-Swiss father was the real great white hunter of the family.

In any event, her three books all look fascinating.

Wonderful book I read over the weekend. Paul Kalanithi writes a memoir about his life and illness, battling stage IV metastatic lung cancer. It was published posthumously 10 months after he died at the age of 37.

I wrote a review of that book. It was quite bad in terms of substance tbh.

Book I highly recommend: Pettis’ The Great Rebalancing. Very well written book on international macroeconomics that makes stellar use of accounting identities in its analysis of modern imbalances and their effects.

Pistor’s The Code of Capital is interesting too. Not sure to what extent I buy her characterisation of capital as whatever asset is coded in a certain way in the law, but she makes clear just how significant the law is in determining distributions of wealth and who bears the economic burden when things go bad. Quite insightful, even if you don’t agree with her central contention entirely.

Slowpoke? I think not! I like to read but I like to take my time. Anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks for me, not counting novellas.
