The String Thing doesn't straighten strings well enough for me to use. After stringing, I'm pretty particular about straightening, and I wish The String Thing would get them straight enough. Even though it straightens them out a bit, I still need to use my fingers to get them to a degree that I'm comfortable with. If I need to use my fingers anyway, I just do the whole process with my fingers after taking the racquet off the machine. On a side note, I find it funny in the video when the guy talks about how players shouldn't use string savers anymore like Sampras did. Seems there is a guy by the name of Federer that uses them on every racquet.

I only paid $18 really I talked them into a $2 discount. LOL And I am going to sell it to someone who is willing to pay $25 for it so I'll still make $7. And I had to get my order up to $75 so i could get the free two day air shipping.
EDIT: If I wold have bought your I would be under $75, I'd only make 25 cents because I would have to pay shipping and I have to wait a week for ground from California.

You welcome, I just tried it one a customer's racket he just brought by and the strings were really crocked and the string thing didn't do anything.

I try to keep my string bed pretty straight as I string the crosses. But the outer mains and a few crosses have a slight bend when I done. The String Thing does nothing to straighten them up. Look at the video again and look at 1:50 just after he straightens the mains on his left. They are better than they were before he ran the String Thing up and down on them but they are not straight. If someone is looking for something to get there strings I would not suggest a String Thing.So I guess MAX PLY, Chotobaka, myself, and jim e. are all full of *beans*.
EDIT: The guy in that video says it's impossible to straighten strings using your fingers. I guess that means @RJYU is full of beans. I don't think so. I guarantee I can straighten a string with my fingers where the String Thing can't.

I can bend every string, outside or not by nudging the string thing in the direction I want it to go as I get to the area in question.
However when stringing the crosses, I do the exact same as you using my fingers. When the strings are installed they move easily, but after a few weeks of playing, they take a lot more effort to put back in place so I use the string thing when I play and right when I'm done. Works for me.
Maybe it's the new model compromising the teeth design for a one size fits all that's the culprit. I have the open pattern model and it's worth every penny to me.
The guy in the video is trying to sell product, it's no surprise to me that he might stretch the truth just a little bit in his favor.

Progress report:
So, I purchased a length of Lexan from McMaster, cut off a piece with a hacksaw, then using a rotary file cut it down except for a small section at the end (for teeth). I used a small end mill to cut the teeth out and then finally clamped the opposite end with my vise and heated it with the same gun I use for grip builds and bent the end over.

I prefer the awl technique
it freaks people out who've never seen it done before, specially if you look at them in the eyes while you stab the racquet furiously..
