What if Federer played like he did in 2012 next season?

I know it's a long stretch but what if he played like he did. Federer turned 31 that year, made the OF at the US, SF AO, RG, and won W. Won the Silver medal at the Olympics & also 3 Masters 1000. Won 71 matches and loss only 12. Winning % that season was 86%. Won 6 titles, and had a 6-6 record against his main rivals.(ND 2-3, AM 3-2, RN 1-1) What are your thoughts? Given his smaller schedule this year. I think he can kinda replicate it. Maybe 2 masters(Indian Wells,Cincinnati) , 1 GS(W) OF AO,4th Rd RG,SF US, and WTF.

I think his biggest chance at a GS is Wimbledon. Even he knows it, given how he's made his schedule.

Can he replicate those results? Probably not, but he can still win a GS.

It would pretty damn amazing if he managed to replicate 2012 like stats next year at age 35. Winning that much at this age is too big of an ask for him, I have a feeling he'll have a mediocre/decent year. Hopefully he'll at least get the 18th slam though.

His form was best at the AO and Wimbledon that year. He would contend next year at those majors with that form. He was better in 2012 than this year.

I think Federer has a very good chance of winning Wimbledon next year, I think he has the perfect schedule for it. All that matters is number 18.

Yep. I think he gets it. I don't think Djokovic will be standing in his way this time.

Don't know man. Not getting my hopes up until Federer is in the final.

Djokovic winning the FO and Federer winning Wimbledon would provide two great sporting moments in the space of a few weeks.

I think both of them have those individual goals in mind. I can understand you don't want to get those hopes high, I just have a gut feeling that Federer has the right plan of attack and he knows about the campaign that Djokovic is about to make on the clay. I think Federer can beat anyone on grass right now except Novak, and I feel Novak is going to falter at W. We might just see a CGS and also 18 happen within a matter of weeks.

Federer's only hope is if Djokovic is still high on winning RG and the CGS and his focus on Wimb is not great.

In thse last 2 years Djokovic focused like a mad man on Wimb to gain some confidence after losing RG. Maybe thing might be different if he actually won RG.

Sounds weird to say about a guy with 17 GS titles, but he really does deserve #18 now, after having been so close.

Don't forget Nadal winning AO, only player to win 2 career GS. :p ;)

Fed will be 34/35 in 2016, so there's no way he's replicating 2012. He's too old, his recovery time has increased in the last 3 years and all aspects of his game have eroded (yes, even the serve). He was in the most perfect form I've ever seen in a 34 year old this July when he beat Muzz in the W. semis.

We all know what happened in the final.

********, especially your point concerning his serve.
You mentioned his SF against Murray yourself, better serving than ever before.
