What kind of ranking do you think Federer will have when he retires?

Considering that Federer has obviously declined his play since '05-06' (Please note, I am not saying he is playing bad or even having a bad year, merely that he isn't doing as well as he did since then), and given that he said he will continue to play at the very least until the 2012 Olympics, what kind of ranking do you think he will have when he retires?

Although you never know.. it could be Top 25. His game is so easy and natural that he might choose to fade away rather than retire.

If he retires when he wants to, he'll be playing as long as possible. If it's by injury, it could be #1 or at least top5

This is actually an interesting question. He has very good movement, but attacking is more important to his game. Even when his movement goes downhill, he will still be quite a danger to win tournaments. If he wants to, he could probably play until he is quite old. I just kind of wonder well he'll be able to tolerate not winning tournaments.

Anyway, I personally think he'll retire somewhere between 10-20.

This is so hard to answer. I think Fed could still be very dangerous at a slam long after he's lost the will to fight match after match through out the season so he may very well be outside of the top 5 but still inside the top 10 because of success at the slams. I would personally like to see him retire after a slam victory like Pete did. Very nice way to go rather than fading away.

Have to agree here. Pete wasn't going to be dominant over an entire season anymore but certainly could have pulled of another couple of slams. Pete had no idea Fed was coming. Fed has no idea who may or may not be next. Legacy wise it may be good for Fed to keep going as long as he thinks he has a good shot in the slams and try to rack up as many as he can in order to protect his status.

Hard to answer, but it's because I'm torn between wanting to see him retire while he's still at the very top or close to it, and selfishly wanting to see his fluid play as long as possible.

I got a feeling he'll be retiring at #4, no idea why. Just got a gut feeling Fed will be retiring still a legitimate threat at slams and tournys, but his hunger will just have been depleted. The man has won 15 slams, what else could he want at this point? Anything else at the moment would just be a bonus.
