Seriously. The OP was an ATP ranked doubles player and everyone tries to crap on him with disrespectful stuff? We should be trying to pick his brain for knowledge. This is probably why really good players usually end up not posting here anymore.

Plus, this guy is not even that fat. Maybe if he were a current pro I could see thinking he was unusually overweight (for a pro athlete), but he looks pretty normal for an average guy. Only against players who are close to his equal in skill will conditioning become a problem. For 99% of people, he'll be too good for fitness to really matter.

I agree with most of your post here...

HOWEVER, no matter how much I respect him and how much I would love to hit with him and learn from him, he is HEAVILY overweight (and a great mover for his weight). I don't think he has any problems posting his height/weight, however, it is obvious that he would have to lose at least 30 lbs to make it competitive.

Nevertheless, I did not detect ANY hate in any of those posts above.

TMOP, you are a really good player and from following your posts I know that your a good guy. Ignore the people who make fun of your weight , they're just trolls.

Keep posting videos man, I actually enjoy watching them and so do many other people. Us 3.5-4.5 players can learn a lot from people like you and tony Larson.

I am stunned at the amount of hate you get, I really don't understand it ....

Thanx a lot, you are probably one of the nices and friendliest guys around.
Thank you.
Maybe because i am not American?

The posts on this board are OK, not very respectful but still...OK. But as I said yesterday i got 3 mails that were not very nice, i have figured out who 2 of them are but still i would never out them, even though its tempting to say the least...

hey i made my post in the utmost respect. i know some people called you fat and stuff, but you got to see through the people calling you names, and just pointing it out as a factor for the reason why they posted what they did.

the reason why is this really. 6.0 players tennis is their jobs, their meal tickets.
5.5 players are mostly get their pay from a mix from money tournyments and teaching.
5.0. they play for a trophy, a tshirt, and a goody-bag.

from the looks and sounds of things, i think you could go deep and maybe win a solid open tourny. but based on the video, and from what you said about you could only go for an hour or 2, i don't think you stand a chance in a solid money tournament(such as that $15,000 open in Vancouver that tonlars has played in). those are legit 5.5 players, and i would conciser the semi-finalists all 6.0players.
lose 30 lbs from some hard work in the gym, and i am sure you could be back in your peak.

once again, everything i am saying is in no way intended to be disrespectful. i am just giving you my utmost and honest answer. After all, this is what the thread is about

No worries Larry, you are entitled to an opinion and thats fine.

It was the fact that some people actually sent me private e-mail writing some disrespectful stuff that i think is not very cool.

Im already on it, this board and rude comments actually gave me great motivation getting back into shape!

I got a couple of mails from posters telling me not to care about what lots of internet warriors who cant play themselves on this board think of me and my game. That this place is full of haters etc etc.

Its fine though, its rather fun.

FYI, these guys are legit 5.0`s right?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb8K_sq650Y&feature=player_detailpage

My god...:-?

Oh well

Hey TMOP, I hope you know from my past candid comments about your videos that I respect you as a player, and as a very tolerant person. I just have to say that I don't understand all the obsession with NTRP ratings. IMO, the whole premise of NTRP ratings that pigeon-hole tennis players with largely meaningless labels does more harm than good by creating false psychological barriers to progress. That's why I said in my post that I thought your "level" was about 6' maybe 6'1". I guess you didn't think it was funny.

What has much more meaning, IMO, is what someone's ranking is. If you are ranked, that really says something about what you've accomplished. It means you've actually played tournament tennis and had some measure of success.

When you play a real tennis tournament, are the seeds selected by NTRP ratings? No! When you step on the court, do you ask yourself, "I wonder what this guy's NTRP ratings is?" No! Does it make any difference whatsoever what your opponent's NTRP level is? None! If you learn that his NTRP level is higher than yours, do you shake hands and concede the match? NO! You play the match and if you win, you get to play in the next round. And if you keep winning, you keep playing. That's it! NTRP level's are irrelevant!

Part of the fun of playing real tennis tournaments, especially if you are too old to play open tennis, is that you don't know if you're going to draw an ulta-competitive, club level hacker who will fight to the death to get games off of you, or a former World ranked Davis Cup player who you will struggle to get games off of, or anything in between. You play who you draw and you do everything you can to win within the rules of the game. NTRP level? BAH! Who cares?

Played an open this weekend and the talent ranged from me( maybe a 4.0 at this point) to a guy who won a challenger in Pakistan in 2007 :) I love the breadth of tennis skills. You look good TMOP, fitness is the easy part the strokes are the tough part( In my opinion)

most intelligent post in this thread thus far I reckon...

We don't have NTRP in my country, players know what they can and can't do and enter events accordingly. We sort of use ITN, but nobody really pays it a lot of attention.

But you guys are obsessed!

What???
I beg to differ.
Especially if you get close to mid 30's and later...
I hope that he can get back to the "spectacular" shape, however, it will be tougher with every day that passes.

A lot of people have the strokes down. Timing comes with practice. However, the footwork and fittness come with a very hard and extended work. Without those two, the strokes are useless...4.5 and above...

I am over 40 and fitness is still the easy part. IF you are not a lazy trainer it will be the easy part, but everything is relative ie he will still be in his 30's and a 20 year old will still have the suppleness and fluid movement of a 20 year old. TMOP has good strokes with no inherent flaws so they will be good under pressure. Timing comes with hitting balls true, but if the guy at the other end doesn't hit the ball too well but moves good he will get crushed.

You seem to have almost all the shots, and you know your limitations as far as fetching and retrieving are concerned. You also seem very nonchalant about the winning and losing thing. You'd rather hit your good shots than go for the high percentage stuff.
Lefty was looking good until he started spraying forehands.
Good both of you know not to hit up the middle, and every shots has a direction.
But we already knew you had the shots.
