Rafa Nadal has had three years where he has had pretty memorable comebacks? What was the best though?

2013
- many felt he was done after injuries in 2012
- 2 grand slams
- 5 ATP 1000s
- 10 titles

2017
- loss of form in 2015 then injury in 2016 - many felt it was now the age of Murray/Djokovic
- 2 grand slams
- 2 ATP 1000s
- 6 titles

2022
- foot issues at latter end of 2021 made many feared retirement was possible
- 2 grand slams (with US Open to come)
- 4 titles

Gotta be 2017 because most people thought he was truly done since 2014 and he rose from the ashes to reach AO final, win la decima at RG and then went on to win USO. 2022 comeback wasn't really surprising because we all knew he would do well as long his foot didn't bother him (or could get around the problem like he did at RG).

AO 2022. Stuff of legends. Disappeared after the French last year, and completes the Double Slam and Slam Record (13 years from the last time he won it) from 2 sets down? Insane. Yes some will say its asterisk but who knows. Djokovic looked pretty burned out after winning Wimbledon last year, so there was no reason to believe he was a "For sure" thing to win the AO. The Wimbledon this year was probably the last time Djoker looked fresh in a long time.

The 3 biggest slam wins of all time are Pete's Wimbledon 2000, Fed's French 2009, Nadals AO 2022. Those were real key moments in history

Some people, you just don't know if they're extremely irritating on purpose for no reason or aren't aware they are.

It has to be 2017

Even though health was up in the air a bit, I didn’t think he was done in 2012. The 2015-2016 period was really rough and even as a die hard fan it was hard to believe Rafa would be able to come back like he did in 2017. So glad he’s proven us wrong and done truly amazing things with Moya’s coaching to help him

Hard to decide. I tend to go with 2013 because even though it was not as emotional or surprising as the other two, he displayed the highest level and was the most successful among them. Obviously age helped here.
As for the other two, really tough call. I have to favor 2017 because most of us never saw that coming.

I think 2013 only makes sense if we're talking about the most memorable year instead of the most memorable comeback. But the notion of comeback is very specific and I don't see which year in Nadal's career could be more representative of that notion, besides 2017. It's not just one of his comebacks, it's THE comeback in his career. Like Federer the same year or Djokovic in 2018.

As long as his foot didn't bother him. Genius.
But it has bothered him all year, though, just as it did last year, too. The only way he was able to play RG at all was because they numbed the top of his foot so he couldn't feel it. If not for that, he definitely does not win RG, and probably has to have surgery to permanently fuse his foot, which would also end his career. Not every player is allegedly bionic like the dude in your avatar.

That truly makes sense. 2017 as a comeback is truly absurd. What makes 2013 special for me is, like you said, it combines a great comeback with an absurd year, especially performance wise.

His foot was a problem at RG and Rome but read what I said in parentheses, I did take that into account. As for the other tournaments, we have no evidence that his foot was a problem, Nadal himself never claimed such a thing. At AO, his foot was fine as far as we know, it was also fine at IW and Madrid. And ever since he received that special treatment after RG (don't remember how the procedure is called), he seems fine.

And it led to one of the best tennis youtube videos ever which I posted earlier in the thread :D

I never found injury stories trustworthy in first place. The guy can't play with his highest intensity more than 6-8 months for whatever reasons. He needs to "recharge" his batteries to go on. Notice every time he made so called comeback - he won multiple Slams in that season. Now compare this someone who really suffered major injuries - it took him almost year to get back to top level. OTOH Nadal after "comeback" plays as if nothing happened in very first tournament. There is clearly something that is not normal with Nadal injury stories. We will never know secrets of Nadal injuries and miraculous recoveries.

2013 was tougher than the others......it was in his prime and he even lost to zeballos (who? ) on clay on his return......lost to novak at mc and entered roland garros with shallow confidence and fighting spirit.....the rest was history......

This year really has been epic af lol. He even made us doubt he had a chance at the FO8-B
This really sounds like something usually only possible in a Wrestling storyline. :-D

That said, in a Wrestling storyline it's sometimes too obvious, so that we know that exactly the opposite of what we should think will happen.
