What would be considered a tough draw for Nadal on clay?

I keep hearing some people say Nadal has a cakewalk draw. What would constitute a tough draw for Nadal then? He cant play Federer until the final, Djokovic has turned crap. Ferrer and Verdasco and Almagro are his whipping boys. So who else could make it tough for him for the second week of grand slams?

Just noise from a bunch of Nadal-haters.

His draw this year was far from easy. The only match I was somewhat concerned about was Almagro (which also turned out to be his most difficult).

That's the quickest one I could come up with. The rankings of the players selected make it possible for such a draw to exist. I think Nadal would still be able to make it through and win the championship with such a draw, but it's a lot tougher than the one he had.

Yes, it was easy but he would've managed to steamroll everybody anyway.

Soderling is a clown finalist.

pretty much like Fed's draw last year but Fed had to play three 5 setters LOL! imagine what a healthy Nadal would have made to him last year

Had the feeling Soderling peaked. Soderling has 2 meet Nadal in the 4th or QF in order 2 have chance 2 pull upset he obviously peaks and declines. Can not do the 7 matches. That would have made this years French more xciting. Hope the draw is better next year. Damage done 2 Soderling tho that might kill the xcitement of the Rivalry.

Almagro seems to bring out the worst in Nadal, even if Nadal wins the matches. The only real exception was that triple breadstick match at the 2008 French Open.

How many of those guys did Federer face?

Kidding. Rafa has worked hard for his championship and played extremely tough players, including Nole, Feña, Fer, David Ferrer, and Gulbis is showing up well this season. Robin started to give him a hard time in the first set; Rafa has worked hard to figure out how to play him.

I don't think it's fair to try to negate Rafa's hard work by intimating he's had four easy draws in his Masters season and this RG final. The man is just very, very, very good.

Unitl he has a dangerous draw such as the one above he can never be claimed a Clay Goat.

In all seriousness though, he beats who is in front of him time and time again, I think a LOT of players are potentially dangerous to Rafa on clay, but his defense to offence game is too much for the field.

what did u think of Nadal's performance today nameless?

A level, maybe even A+ at times,I was/am very surprised and satisfied, when compared to what he played before in RG.

Deep fh most of the time, very smart variation on the BH side(going either deep crosscourt to sod fh or looping it to his BH in order to buy more time to reposition on court),absolutely incredible serving for Rafa's standards,an aggressive attitude when he got a look at the ball and absolutely incredible defense at times.

Rafa would have won either way today. He was too determined, too motivated. He won in three because sod's serve was off and thus half of his game(aces and getting short reply for his fh to put away) was gone and he was forced to trade groundstrokes with Rafa, not the most pleasant perspective, especially when Rafa is not playing short. If Sod's serve had been a bit better,Rafa would have won in four IMO. I also think Robin can't up his level as well in finals as he can in earlier rounds, when there is pressure you can see and feel it in his game.

good analysis. He didnt play short and that was the key. He also used the dtl forehand in some points to control the rally, mixed in a few slices etc. Dont think he played quite as well as in 2008 but still a great win. He raised his level when he needed it most.

Roger Federer (on FH) , Robin(on BH) playing on the other side of the net. In short 2 on 1.
He has to beat them in 7 times in a row.

YES!!

but realistically, I would say he'd have to play himself in all 7 rounds in order to be beaten. But then he would still technically win

I have argued enough number of times with people who say that no draw is tough for Nadal on clay (which is not true). Fact is, he would get super easy draws time after time and in defense of that, his fans came up with this myth that he has no tough draw on clay.

Well, Nadal finally got a tough draw at RG 2014, at least on paper. If the draw actually plays out according to the seedings and none of his opponents are injured , I think he will have trouble time making his way through this draw. Even if the guys in early rounds don't beat him, they can push him and tire him out before the final stages.

The draw on paper is :

Ginepri
Thiem
Pospisil
Almagro
Ferrer
Stan/Murray
Djokovic
