He has a hitch and lacks usage of his upper body as a whole unit. Not that bad of a forehand though. He makes clean and solid contact, and seems to be getting the majority of the balls back.

Hey NamRanger, what would you do to fix it?

A. His takeback isn't very clean, and as CAM says, for what he does with the ball, he doesn't do too much to the ball. He'd definitely get murdered against 5.0s or better.

B. He doesn't rotate very well with the upper body as a single unit. He should be attacking the ball with his shoulder, trunk, upper chest, and hand all as a single unit. You can tell he's fairly disconnected in this aspect.

C. His racquet speed is very low. I can understand that he is trying to make solid contact, but obviously he's lacking in enough racquet speed to create the spin that he needs to survive at a competitive level of tennis. This stems from problem B.

D. His follow through is very classic like, which is fine for amateur level tennis, but if he plans on playing at a D1 level of tennis, I'd highly suggest he learn how to wiper abit better. Also, learning to hit the wiper motion will increase spin on his forehand, making it more consistent and able to go for a bigger forehand in general.

E. His whole forehand motion is very unsmooth and very unconnected. Seems like he's very tense when he hits his forehand, which is probably causing problem C and B. Stems from problem A, which is what sets the tone for your stroke. Unsmooth take back generally leads to an unsmooth and uneffective stroke.

D. His forehand volley makes me want to cringe. So much swing. His backhand volley is ok. Could use alot of work on these two parts.

However, the main root of his problem is his footwork. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this. If you watch his feet carefully, you'll find that his feet are actually in the wrong position more often times than not. Especially with his forehand. The result is that he is not loading properly with his right foot, thus leading to a whole slew of problems I just listed.
