It’s ok. They could have waited until he’d been retired a few years. He gets recognition now with the trophies and the million dollars in prize money and media acclaim. Might have been nice for him in his 50s to have it unveiled and a nice ceremony. Plus they could have spent longer on the design which looks like it belongs on a manga theme park.
Why are there holes in that statue?
The holes symbolize the free interaction that Nadal has with his fans.
Also, the statue is made of metal strips welded together and full covering will make it too heavy.
There is no ATP Slam, Slams are ruled by the ITF. So no, I don't see why would they bring a statue of Novak at RG. Especially when Novak has only won 1 RG title.
If Djokovic wins next year his 10th AO, it would be well-deserved if they put a statue to his name next to the Margaret Court Arena. Djokovic is the greatest male AO player ever, and the organization putting a statue of Djokovic at the AO would be OK.
Here’s my unsalty criticism:
The statue is so horrible it hurts.
It is excellent.
I sustain my opinion.Statue looks more like del po
I sustain my opinion.
I can’t get over the nausea.
Well, aesthetics judgment is very personal.
Seems to have triggered Djokovic fans on here. Federer fans seem ok. Says a lot. Here's mine:
Nadal deserves recognition for his achievements. I just think honoring an active player like that while he's still competing is kinda unfair to his competitors... why not wait until the man has retired to do this?
Now the highlights feature his silhouette, the logo features it, there's a giant ass statue on premises.
They could have waited. That's all.
It is not unfair to his competitors. Have his competitors won 13 RG? No. That is the reason why they do not have a statue at RG.
It is called meritocracy. You want a statue while you play? Win 13 Slams at one event while being an active player and you will get it.
guys... are you ready?!I'm going to reserve my non-salty criticisms for after I get to see it. But speaking of salt, I'm looking forward to checking, as I'm sure @vive le beau jeu ! will be, whether it's rust-proof. The position is a little exposed for me, but maybe I'll bring along a willing canine. It shouldn't be rust-proof, for historical accuracy, but then again if they were going for that then where's the knee tape?
The french couldn’t even build a right statue for rafaelito. Why am i not shocked? I don’t think he has ever been their favorite son.
Another aspect of giving some time is to let a person live a certain amount of time without controversy before attaching a long-lived brand so closely to their character/views/other baggage.
Some things go on easy but are harder to take off if need be
Not saying Nadal is a bad guy, but there is a very good example already in our sport. (agree or disagree with Margaret Court's right to her views, it's definitely a headache for the AO now)
That's interesting.
Would the issues around Margaret Court be as problematic in France do you think?
The anglosphere seem beset by the culture wars in a way that i don't think all countries are, at least to the same extent.
guys... are you ready?!
my cat is deeply offended to have been mistaken for a dog...The author of this article obvioulsy saw you:
2) Pick up the Poo! Obviously, dog walkers should be prepared, under all circumstances, with a plastic bag (or several) for picking up doggy doo… and simply toting them isn’t enough: don’t “forget” to use it! I’ve seen dog walkers make an elaborate show of getting their bag out when another person or car passes by, and then stuffing it away, still empty, as soon as the other person is gone (for shame)! ...
Dog Walking Etiquette: 5 Easy "Rules"
Here are five simple tips on dog walking etiquette that will make your neighborhood much more pleasant, for you, your neighbors, other dogs, and, of course, your dog.earthbath.com
As for preparing plastic bags (mentioned in the article), there is no big difference whether you walked 11 dogs or 10 dogs and one cat.my cat is deeply offended to have been mistaken for a dog...
(especially as she cautiously buries her creations)
you're mistaken... it's my cat who 'walks me'.As for preparing plastic bags (mentioned in the article), there is no big difference whether you walked 11 dogs or 10 dogs and one cat.
Metal moths. Why are there holes in that statue?
Your cat walks you and you go with 10 dogs. Nothing frees you from the responsibility of preparing plastic bags to clean up after the 10 dogs .you're mistaken... it's my cat who 'walks me'.

As @TearTheRoofOff said, each hole represents an injury
I like that it's suspended in the air, but the design is not my taste. The holes...
