When will Serena retire?

I think Serena will retire from singles competiton next year after tieing Steffi this year at 22 and tieing Margaret Court at 24 next year at which point Serena becomes GOAT because most of Margaret Court's slams are amateur ones. What do you think? Am I right on this one?

You're so cute. I want to pinch your cheeks.

You come across as a wide-eyed little child who loves the attention but also deserves it because of the cuteness.

I imagine you waking up in the morning and darting out of bed and going "yay, another day to praise Serena and eat cheerios!"

"Am I right on this one?" Awww. <3

I think her and Fed will retire. It's also a Olympic year if I'm not mistaken. I think they both can go out and at least try to win that one more time...there will be nothing else to prove at that point and it can only go down hill from there. At some point age will take it's toll so I see both of them getting out after next year. If things don't turn around fast...Nadal might be joining them. Kind of half heartedly joking about Nadal but I don't know that he's going to hang around and start getting bounced by hard hitting qualifiers so we'll see.

I'd be very surprised if she plays beyond next year. The Olympics is definitely an end point in her mind, I think.

Well, a few weeks ago Nadal said he may retire in 6 years (and recently Roig said Nadal will still be contending for slams at age 33). So given that Serena has been winning more frequently than Nadal this year, got to think Serena may have 6+ years left.

I don't know about that. The thing with women is that I'm sure most of them want to have kids at some point, and it's quite difficult to continue your career once you have a kid. For the men it's easier, as you can see right now that of the top 4 guys in the rankings, 3 of them have kids.

I can see Serena transitioning at some point of her choosing, and playing doubles only with Venus. The two of them could play doubles and shatter some more all-time records and have loads of fun for just as long as the wish.

Could really see them playing dubs until they are in their fifties.

I think she could still be competitive in a wheelchair, provided it's a tall chair that allows her to serve from approximately the same height.

I think it will be the result either of boredom or failure to compete. Given that the opportunities to be bored out there have already presented themselves, and she seems to handle that by handing sets to opponents to wake herself up, I don't think it'll be boredom. Who knows how long she'll be able to compete. I have no idea, but I'm going to say she has at least another two years given the current state of competition.

Who knows, really?

Depend on so many questions, like:
1) Does she want kids? In that case, I can see her retire after the olympics next year no matter what.
2) Does she only want to retire when she stops contending for majors? In that case, she might continue for 3-4 years more.
3) Does she just want to reach a certain goal and then call it quits? E.g. surpassing Graf's slam count, which she seems doable of passing by the time the 2016 olympics come by.

Who knows, really, as long a she enjoys playing she should keep going.

So...never? ;) Just teasin'...

I think at the USO next year, unless she's very close to achieving a particular goal.
If #Serena fails to win anymore grand slam events by #2016Olympics, the #2016USOpen would likely be her last tournament. However, if she is close to #MargaretCourt's record she will play until she breaks it.
