This thread is not about bashing eras (although it will no doubt turn into that). I am more interested in the technical matchup comparisons. His HC losses in this period include:
06
- Clement (wtf?)
- Blake
- Moya
- Berdych
- Ferrero
- Youzhny
- Johansson
- Federer

07
- Malisse
- Gonzalez
- Youzhny
- Djokovic
- Djokovic
- Ferrer
- Nalbandian
- Nalbandian
- Federer

08
- Youzhny
- Tsonga
- Roddick
- Djokovic
- Davydenko
- Djokovic
- Murray
- Simon
- Davydenko

09
- Monfils
- Murray
- Del Potro
- Del Potro
- Djokovic
- Del Potro
- Cilic
- Davydenko
- Djokovic
- Soderling
- Davydenko
- Djokovic

Please add or correct me if I missed any.

Which current players would give young Bull the biggest problems on HC?

Zverev/Tsitsipas
Tsitsipas better pray its off clay because that funny looking backhand ain't standing up to the more spin centric Rafa forehand of 06-09.

Big Z is a good pick for his size and stability on the backhand but DAT forehand and serve...he might be able to hang with Rafa for a while and even take a set but I think that's his best.

So Youzhny better than these guys on HC? Ok
I hope we’re not holding that match (which occurred after a super, super long semi with Moya) against 2008dal here. If it makes you feel better, yes, Zverev and Tsitsipas could beat that specific version of Nadal. Hell, even Gasquet could beat that tired version of Nadal.

If you’re talking about the 2006 and 2007 losses, I’m sure Zverev could grab a match if Nadal had one of those off days, but I’m less confident on Tsitsipas since his game matches up so horribly against Nadal. Think about how perfectly suited for Fed’s game Nadal is and then amplify that for Tsitsipas.

I am actually going to give these young players some credit sue me.
They are big have lots of length and have all the shots.
Their brains questioned at times.
Nadal was very raw on hardcourts during that period.
Medvedev and Thiem.
The top ten could get some nice wins.
The one handed bh players usually have big problems with players like Nadal.

Probably not Medvedev considering the amount of tries it took him to beat Oldal.

Actually I'd like Karatsev's chances, I think he'd go to town on young Nadal's serve.

I am pretty sure Youzhny won a more important HC match vs Nadal than 2008 Chennai. :p

Yeah, I forgot about 2007 Dubai ;)
What do you mean? Isn't that the year Nadal straight setted absolute peak Federer on HCs in Miami?

Didn’t Tsitsipas just knock him out of AO?
