Ljubicic is the defending champion but he´s playing Doha. This is gonna be the first test for Nadal in 2007. Nalbandian, Srichaphan, Moya, Malisse...also taking part.

Blake is the defending champ. The list is awesome: Nadal, Davydenko, Blake, Baghdatis, Berdych, Gasquet, Hewitt, J. Johansson, Tursunov...
Maybe some of these will skip Sydney if they go far the week before.

The players list is awesome but this tournament is not giving ranking points (sorry if I am wrong) so once they decide to play the week before the Australian, why not play Sydney or Auckland and get some ranking points?

most of those players will make up for the points by going deep into the AO draw. And most of those players only care about the grand slam so what better way to prepare for it that playing most of the players you will face in the latter rounds of the open.

It's a distinct possibility. You're a fool to ever count Nadal out. I've said it before and I'll say it again- He has more fighting spirit and puts more heart into his tennis than any other active player, except for Hewitt.

The players who pick Kooyong do it because they are guaranteed 3 matches against top level players in the same city and on a similar surface as the AO the following week.
