As a continuation of @Hitman's thread, I would like people to give their opinion on who was the 2nd best HC player of each of these years as I think it is less straightforward than the best HC player.

So here goes:

2003: Agassi
2004: Safin
2005: Safin or Hewitt
2006: Roddick or Davydenko
2007: Djokovic
2008: Federer
2009: Del Potro
2010: Nadal
2011: Federer
2012: Murray
2013: Nadal
2014: Wawrinka
2015: Federer
2016: Murray
2017: Nadal
2018: Fed or Delpo
2019: Nadal or Djoko
2020: Thiem or Djoko
2021: Med or Djoko
2022: Nadal
2023: Med

2023: Med

That is a good list

2005 - I would give that to Safin, his level at AO was just too darn high.
2006 - I would give that to Roddick, he should have beat Federer in Shanghai when he had MP.
2018 - Federer, that match with Djokovic in Paris was epic
2019 - I think Djokovic second, Nadal was the best that year overall.
2020 - Djokovic in second again, he could and should have been first had he not got DQ, but Thiem's level was high at all the three big events in general, minus the USO final.
2021 - Djokovic again

2005 is definitely Safin. Not only did he win a slam but he beat Hewitt in direct H2H and freakin peak Federer. Hewitt did better at the HC masters but did not win any either. Both did not play the YEC and Hewitt reached the semi at the USO which Safin did not play. Since Hewitt did not win anything on HC, his better performances outside the AO are not enough to outweigh Safin's great AO run.
2019 Djokovic is No.1 and Nadal No.2. Sure he had a subpar year outside the AO and Paris, but this total 3-2-3 demolition of Rafa in the AO final weighs more than Rafa's USO win imho. If Novak is not injured I have a hard time seeing Rafa beating him, he would need to hope for Med to take him out.
