Think he just likes the G360 more than the G360+. Honestly surprised Head let’s him use an old PJ
likewise. i’ve seen him using the 360+ and find it rare and cool due to his selectivity of frames

i’d assume it’s the dark frame visual issue like with novak hating the white hoop

Definitely the auxetic, the throat tone goes up into the hope partially like other auxetic PJ’s vs. the 360+

anyone know what it is about the paintjob that he just can’t use?

bright color??
It is all mental…
Novak did not like too much white in the hoop so he used the SpeedX then they created the Speed Black to transition him to Auxetic PJ
Basilasvilli too. Krejickova used the old PJ for a long time. muchova too. Andy did not like that bright orange, so he stuck with the 360 PJ. There are examples of other brands (Wilson for example) too where players stuck with the older PJ. Federer and tuxedo PJ would be another one…

Also, is Murray still the "face of the radical?

I feel like they provide him with more leniency now? He was using microgel, youtek etc. Which are orange, but maybe not this orange.

I don’t think so. I think Fritz is now. Murray also won’t dawn that disgusting orange paint job.

Interesting that of all radical users he’s the only one not using that PJ (Schwartzman, Stephens, Fritz, Kwon, Garin, and many others have no issue) so he must really know it all ;)
Sloane Stephens has been using the old Radical PJ this Spring and Summer and is using it this week in Parma--she doesn't like the orange either...

So it's not to do with a relative necessity to meet contractual obligations?

Not necessarily all mental.

My stringer likes using the red Cyclone Tour over the grey, because he feels like the red helps force the eye to watch the ball at contact. There's some method to all this madness

Since I know the details behind NOVAK’s decision, I’d say it is all mental. Not sure for the others…

Yes, it is. If you will recall HEAD came out with a Special Edition Speed model for Djokovic years ago that was all black with gold graphics that he used for quite a while. Then HEAD switched the colors of the Speed so the racquet was white on top and black near the grip. Shortly thereafter HEAD came out with yet another black Special Edition Speed. When I asked the HEAD brass why they made another black Speed racquet so soon I was told simply, 'Novak likes black'. I've also been told many times by HEAD execs that Murray is difficult to work with. He doesn't like change. He'd be happy using a PJ from 10 years ago. He doesn't like the orange Radicals, so he uses the older ones. He didn't like the special blue PJ HEAD made for the Laver Cup Team Europe (which I thought was really cool) and stuck with his old PJ. Fritz and Swartzman used the special made red Radicals at Laver Cup for the World Team with no issues (I saw a photo of Zverev holding both). I don't know how much longer Murray will play but I don't think HEAD is all that concerned about what he uses anymore given the large number of pro players that currently play with the current PJ.

Murray (and now Stephens) are probably the only ones that can choose the racquet paintjob...either way, the paintjob is terrible.

Same with Fed and the tuxedo paint job - black with white sides - he couldn’t play with that, it was all mental for him as well it seems, and they immediately got rid of that pj for RF97

Sorry, that’s not accurate regarding Murray or Novak at the Laver Cup.

Players like certain paint jobs and how it interacts with their eye when swinging through the ball. If they feel it’s ‘off’ and affects that interaction then the frame is ‘no good’.

Some players simply have more clout with their sponsors than others so can be more demanding. In the same way Roger and Rafa had custom Nike’s and other players had the same shoes you and I have access to.

Correct, however, That is not the reason why Novak did not use the 360+ Speed PJ.

My reference to Djokovic was not about the Laver Cup. Check the pictures in post #8 regarding Murray practicing at the Laver Cup.
You are correct. Both, PT57A and PT346.1 were painted in blue/black (gravity LC release) for Andy and Novak. However, only one of each (or very limited number) as they knew they would not use them

I can't stand the current Radical design too, so if I was in Andys position, which I could be, I'm good enough, I just choose not to force others into competing against me because I'm nice like that, I would use the previous design. The orange & grey looks so much better than the current glitterstick they're trying to sell.

Not really. We spoke with both Andy and Novak (and his team) about their frames at the time. They weren’t being difficult about anything at all.

The LC editions for the players were only intended for use at the LC, and not after. Same for Diego and Taylor. They were all open to using them. I don’t think Matteo was hence why he was only given the limited edition bags - however, I’m only speculating on that bit as we didn’t discuss that with him.

Your post referenced laver cup, but apologies if I misunderstood. I’m aware of the frames both Andy and Novak used at laver cup, as well as the reasons behind that.

This time…not correct.
both, Andy and Novak refused to use them (LC blue PJs) at the LC and that was known to Head before the event. They did not even bother giving Andy the radical LC PJ. Usually they paint 12 rackets for each player for the event (I have a picture of Rublev’s frames all ready back early September 2021). head did not do that with NOVAK’s or Andy’s frames.

In Andy’s case it is beyond the colors. Different PJ feels different to him. On a side note, I have a few of his personal in 360 and 360+ PJs and they do feel different to me too LOL

So I must have imagined stringing Andy’s Laver Cup pj frames in London then. And was just daydreaming about Novak’s frames too.

You’re correct though in that none of the players had 12 LC frames each. Each player was given 6.

And in Novak's case?
Novak thought they felt different in spec to his regular frames, so declined to use them after an initial practice. That was that and everybody moved on.

The frames themselves looked stunning though. All the LC editions were very striking in appearance.
