Sadly Thiem. If it wasn’t Medvedev it was Thiem. Getting in the finals of slams for a few years now is finally coming to the point where he gets a (semi) soft ball like Zverev to finally get a win.

Although I've been mighty impressed with Zverev over this fortnight. He'd deserve this as much as Thiem.

Zverev because he is far less solid and the less likely of the two to win a slam in the future, but also Thiem because he is older and deserves it more. I guess both :).

I think this will be the first major where all of TTW does not care who wins .

For a change forum will be live and kicking after the match gets over and no troll threads to look for after that ( perhaps we will see ‘Is Level of tennis displayed by Thiem higher than Big 3?’

I sincerely hope you're trolling. Who has Zverev beaten this slam? No one. Anderson maybe. He barely got away with a Busta who was pretty much physically destroyed after playing his second 5 setter in a row. 37% second serve winning percentage. What a joke.

Thiem has beaten all the good players to get here. The 3 slam finals he's lost to 2 ATGs on their respective surfaces. He's beaten Nadal AND Novak in BO5 to get to his finals, only to have to play the other. He's made 3 of the last 5 slam finals. That's big 3/4-esque. What has Zverev done in BO5 with a 'normal' field? Zip. He arrogantly noted he's got a positive h2h against Roger (failing to mention they're all BO3).

Thiem's court craft and mental toughness has improved year on year. What has Zverev done? Nothing. He still can't play front foot tennis, and his mid court game sucks. My coach describes his serve motion and toss as amateurish. It's not even close who deserves this more. Even if Thiem plays at 90%, Zverev would be lucky to lose 3 4 3. I hope he gets crushed. Breadsticks and bagels for me please.

I like offensive tennis and since it is impossible to win with S-V tennis in the days of poly and slow courts, the best tennis style to watch is big-hitting from the baseline. Also, big-hitting with a 1HBH is so much more aesthetically pleasing. So, Thiem all the way.

If I want to watch double-digit double-faults and inconsistent tosses, I can go to my club and watch the local 3.5s any day of the week - that’s a big reason why Zverev is not much fun to watch.

They both deserve it. But Thiem is more tested in the deep waters, I think it's his for the taking.

Thiem "deserves" to win because he beat these players?? LOL! Thinking that one "deserves" to win because he faced a more difficult draw in a depleted field that didn't include Wawrinka, Federer, Djokovic, or Nadal is laughable.

Past-prime ATGs. And, one can argue that winning by way of avoidance isn't at all deserving.

No one gets deserving rights here. The only player who deserves to win is the one who lifts the trophy.

Me and some others in here has never trolled Zverev, or Thiem for that matter.

In the real world out there Zverev is next gen fan favourite and not looked at as many do in here. TT is a bizarre and cruel place.

Thiem is extra-motivated as he had to skip Kitzbuehl to play the 2nd week of the USO. Only the satisfaction of winning his first Slam will make up for his disgust over skipping his home tournament for likely the only time in his career.

I don't know where you're going with this. Thiem's consistently beaten the only players to have won slams in his time in a BO5 format. Something no one else in the field has done. He hasn't just been knocking on the door, he's been banging on it with a sledge hammer. No wry comment about "past-prime ATGs" will change this fact.

You're right though, it won't count until he wins it on Sunday. And I really hope he does. And many more.
