about this thread title, just for other's sake, I woulda said Who would you PREFER to win the French: Nadal or Federer, just to save those who are tired of these threads from having to see another Fed vs. Nadal.

I think this may be the first thread I've seen on nadal vs. federer where no one got all stupid and trollish. BRAVO ALL!

No, I am a proud Amer, but lets get real. Until the Amer players get in there and get their feet dirty, they do not deserve to win on clay. So far, they are getting just what they deserve. They should all learn from Courier's efforts, then they can say the are in the running.

see i look at it a different way. I wanna see federer win it for history's sake. I think it would be cool to be able to say, I saw someone win the french open over the greatest clay courter in history*, or i saw someone complete the grand slam. Once federer wins a french open, Nadal can win as many as he wants.

But that's a Catch 22 - if Fed wins there's no way Nadal would ever be accepted as a greatest clay courter in history. He needs to stick that FO in Fed's face to become one.

Come on now, you don't have to win every single clay tournament you've entered in ordered to be the best. I'm saying that if Federer ever wins one, that'll probably be his last if Nadal's around and in form. So here's a scenario: Federer wins '06 French, but Rafa wins '07, '08, '10, and '11 AND has the longest clay winning streak in history. Are you saying in that scenario Nadal isn't the greatest clay courter in history?

Am I the only one who is a strong fan of both Federer and Nadal. In my opinion both of them are the most talented tennis players of all time. I really hope both of them beat Sampras' record and win 16 slams each. This is possible because as long as Nadal keeps on winning Australian and French and Federer Wimbledon and US Open. Nadal is a slow surface specialist and Federer a fast surface specialist.

Barring injury or a colosal upset there really are only two people on the planet with a chance to win. If one loses before the final the other is pretty much a shoe in.
