Thomas Johansson. Funny story when he won it was like nobody really cared that much in Sweden. After all the success previous decades we expected grand slam victories even though it had been ten years since Edberg won US Open in 1992. If only we knew that Johansson would be the last one for who knows how long. It has been twenty years soon and we have one player in the top 100 now and no new talent on the horizon.

Depends what you mean by greatest.
If it's the story, the way he did it, the tournament, the road to the final and the final itself (the most insane match I ever watched in my life), then Goran takes it.
If it's just the boring old "X is greater than Y because [insert excruciatingly boring statistics]" then sure, I guess it's Roddick.
Just a long-winded way of saying my vote goes to Ivanisevic.

In terms of pure form I think this is one of the greatest single Slam wins.
He was untouchable that year, CLEARLY head and shoulders above the competition.
People often forget, in the middle of all these GOAT debates, that sometimes the greatest tennis is played by people who aren't even all-time greats.

He played a very high level in that Slam, I remember it very clearly.
Very few mistakes, really solid game. He was a nightmare to play against when in form.
It's often hard to predict who will be a one-Slam wonder. For the same era and the same type of player, I would've said Ferreira, but then as it turned out he didn't even make a final.

Most of Pete's competition were ATGs and multislam champs so hard to pick...I would say Del Potro though. His forehand was as close to Mjolnir as tennis has seen after Pete.

Honorable mention to Del Potro and Ferrero, and Stich. All of them figured to be multi slammers at one point - though, not Goran when he actually won it. I though for sure Stich would be the player of the 90's after seeing him win. Many, including me, expected Del Potro to be a bigger presence in slam finals for the next (now past) decade.
I'll have to think about WTA...

I only watch tennis since around 2003-2004... (beginning of Federer's era) so there aren't many 1 slam champion to pick...
Among the few ones, I'll say Cilic. I was so blown away by his last 3 matchs against Berdych, Federer and Nishikori. He did reach 2 other finals later so it isn't like it was out of the blue.
The women.. for me it's Wozniacki. She spent so long world number #1, and won so many big titles but was always critized because she'd never won a Slam. I'm so glad she won 1 before she retired. She's won around 30 titles (outside of the Williams sisters and Sharapova, I don't think anyone did better in the last 15 years) so it Would have been unfair if she remained slamless...
