I think Gustavo will easily reach the final and Djokovic+Lendl+Borg will soften Nadal till the final and then Kuerten will finish off Nadal in 7 sets :-D

Tough to say regarding Connors given he lost his peak at RG.

My predictions:
QF:
Muster vs. Kuerten
Wilander vs. Courier (more consistent)
Federer vs. Borg
Lendl vs. Nadal

SF:
Kuerten vs. Wilander
Borg vs. Nadal

F:
Nadal d. Wilander

I do protest with you putting Nadal and Borg in the same half though. You should try seeding these hypothetical matchups before you do them. Nadal should win, Borg should reach the final, Wilander and Kuerten are 3rd and 4th seed.

I know.
I deliberately put Borg-Lendl-Djokovic all in Nadal's half to soften him up till the final.

Otherwise it is a forgone conclusion, Nadal will win.

More sets played and Rafa gets stronger and stronger, best of 7, best of 9, he will win them all with a proper seeding ..... He has more durability than anyone in history so he wont lost clay unless the draw is wicked.

I mean Rafa can beaten if it is a best of 3.
Make it Best of 5 and he suddenly looks invincible.
Make it Best of 7 and keep a proper seeding, he will look even more invincible, he will quickly bulldoze his opponents to straight (4) set wins in earlier rounds while others will lose a set here nd there, then in the final Rafa again crushes them.

So a wicked seeding was needed.

I see. Yeah, I suppose if Nadal's path looks like Wawrinka, Djokovic, then Borg then that's definitely Borg's best chance at taking out Nadal. I still wouldn't bet against Nadal in any case, but in that case I would say Borg's got more than just a chance, maybe it's even a coin flip.

Why is Lendl vs Nadal a foregone conclusion?
Lendl has a winning H2H vs Wilander overall and even on FO it is 2-2 and considering the fact that wilander is a solid 4 years younger to Lendl this is impressive

Arguably Lendl is the 3rd or 4th Greatest Clay Courter ever at the Roland Garros in the open era along with Nadal-Borg and Kuerten.

Because you made it f-ing 2008 Nadal! Nobody is beating him no matter how much you think you softened him up. Good grief.

Picking 2008 Nadal in a RG hypothetical is like asking if anybody could beat Superman if Kryptonite and magic didn't exist.

Then we will give Nadal a wooden racquet and his opponents shall use the modern day ones.

i'd be curious to see how borg would play in modern era (modern training/racquet/etc.)... and federer/nadal in 1970s

it's all hard to picture....... i'd probably choose borg and nadal would stay the best in their eras if you parachuted in greats from other times.

Regardless of Lendl's undisputed greatness, the hope with that draw isn't for Lendl to win, same for Wawrinka or Djokovic - neither of them stand a chance against 08 Nadal. The only one in the entire history of tennis who could arguably take down 08 Nadal on clay is a peak Borg.

Lendl probably wouldn't be able to wear Nadal down as well as Wawrinka and Djokovic could. Wawrinka could just try to hit through Nadal (unsuccessfully) but I'm sure that he could tire Nadal out, so he couldn't hit quite as hard against Djokovic.

Djokovic could then wear Nadal down somewhat. In terms of athleticism and matchup, personally I think only Djokovic could hope to grind down Nadal and maybe give the next guy a slightly higher chance. And then Borg tries to take on Nadal.

Obviously this all ends up being moot though, since you gave them all 3 days between matches, which is more than enough to be fighting fit.

Even Borg is overrated.
What is so special about Borg ? He is 5'11 and he will have a lot of trouble when the ball bounces near his forehand.

Only 6'4 guys like Gustavo Kuerten / Soderling have a chance vs Nadal, no one else.

Bias compels me to vote Kuerten.
Mind, Nadal never faced a really serious clay rival. Kuerten would have been it.

That's just stupjd. What are your parameters for the seeding?

If it's played to 7 sets, Nadal has time to either figure out the game of anyone surprising him, or wear them out. With 3 days of rest, he will keep fresh for matches and matches. Only 2010 Nadal can beat 2008 Nadal.

You’re right the 7 sets would favour Nadal for sure. If the hypothetical is made as 1 set I’m sure there are more likely to be upsets. That being said, as this is hypothetical there is no way of knowing any of this.

7 sets makes it impossible for anyone ti beat 2008 Nadal, I think. Who could cope with 7 sets on clay against that machine.
