Wouldn't they have had to delay anyways for the process of closing it, or are you suggesting they should have closed it before the match? Federer said he was happy it was played outside as it is an outdoor tournament.

Yes, they do everything they can to ensure it is played outdoors as long as the weather forecast is only for brief, intermittent showers.

I am confused on whether they did indeed close the roof during the match.

I thought they did during the rain delay and continued playing the third set under the roof. However, they delayed the presentation ceremony to close the roof , which means they never closed it during the match ?

It is an outdoor tournament and they should keep it that way unless it is absolutely necessary. They used to close the roof too soon until a couple of years ago. I think now they are doing it right.

Can you close it while play is going on? If its that slow it wouldnt bother them surely. I think its a much bigger disruption everybody stopping play and leaving the court for half an hour, then having to come back and warm up again.

Im all for keeping play going once its started, if that means lights or closing the roof then do it.

Nope, they kept it open. They only closed it for the ceremony since they probably (just guessing and being sarcy) didn't want their royalty getting damp / soggy

The rain interruption was fairly brief and the match finished around just after 5.30pm, it was dry throughout most of the day, no need to close the roof under those circumstances so were right to keep it open.
