Why do (some) Federer fans have a bee in their bonet about Murray?

I don't get it, Federer has won everything there is "barring Olympic gold" he won that in 2008...he still won a Gold Medal.

It's this imperialist (looking down upon) viewpoint which really is grating. On Fallout the game there's a perk called "Sneering Imperialist", they are the living embodiment of that perk. It's like going to meet the Royal Family in some wife swapping party with some family from a council estate.

Making stupid comments like "Murray is the greatest of all time" or "can Murray win 18 slams?"....Murray is not even in the same league in a career achievements point of view, what is this sarcastic criticism because you don't agree with the old saying that "every dog should have his day?"....or it's a little reminder of who's the "b*tch" and who's the "master"?

It's like Federer is Mary Poppins and Murray is Dick Van D*ke (I can't say his last name due to it being a slur against Lesbians) after cleaning the chimneys, she's like "look at him, that scruffy no mark", don't worry though Dick Van **** woo'd and charmed his way into Mary's heart and Murray will do the same to you Federer fans.

LOL, nice Blocker inspired post

I've tried to be a fan of Murray when he's played aggressively he's been great to watch, but his on court persona and then reverse back to the defensive grind have been too much for me personally.

Some of the more glory-hunting Fed-fans took umbrage with Murray having always played well against him, even in the early days when his ranking was still much lower. For a period, Murray had the lead in the H2H, and they couldn't get their head around it. They thought of him as some annoying young upstart who didn't know his place. Not just that, but they tell themselves that Murray's wins are down to good luck, catching Fed on an off day, or cheating by playing too well or something.

Don't know if Fed fans specifically hate him, although it might be. Just a whole lot of people in general who have an incredibly petty attitude to him.

Obviously I dig both Freddie and Mury lots.

They (fed fans) are the most hated fan Base in tennis. Nadal, djokovic, Murray fans hate these cult worshippers. Djokodalray fans have more class and don't need to bang it in people's faces or literally post the same "fed is goat" rubbish on every Internet forum, website. Djokodalray's resume speaks for itself they don't need to ramble on and spread hate because as all fans know they are just as good as Federer ever was and hence the numbers, rivalries and achievements prove this.

Personally, I've always disliked him because of his attitude. He has little mental control, often gets upset with himself, and can't always control his language. Given, this is only true to a moderate degree, but comparing him to Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic makes it more obvious. Obviously, I watch with my own bias, so would be interested to know if others feel the same way.

But some of his fans are being ridiculously harsh on Murray. Not that I care but it's weird. :)

Fed fans are merely reacting to endless threads from one or two clueless Muzz fans announcing that because he has 3 majors he's suddenly an ATG. Such stupidity deserves to be refuted. Let's put it into perspective: Roger has 14 more majors than Andy and 300+ more weeks at #1, aside from 20 other records Muzz will never get near to.

I like Andy a lot but see his career as it is: he's a hard working and great player, but he's not in the league of Fed, Rafa or Djoker. Those are just the facts.

Typical thread....OP makes a statement to suit their own agenda and then creates an argument around it that involves a lot of finger pointing but no one actually holding the viewpoint the OP has suggested.

Lol...do me a favour, please. Some Fedfans have been up in arms at Murray ever since he first dared to beat him in a match! Beating him in some finals was beyond the pale. They've been busy trying unsuccessfully to disparage and mock every single one of his achievements ever since. Despite being unsuccessful, they never stop trying.

Achievements wise, you are correct of course. Nevertheless he has beaten them all in multiple big finals including in 2 Slams so that puts him somewhat in their league for playing ability.

actually im going for murray for the rest of the year, he is the only hope there is to protect federer from novak reaching his year end #1 récord, so while roger comes back the only way that djokovic does not reach him in that department is for andy to dethrone him at the top, wich is why i wanted andy to lose early in the olympics so he could be more focused on cincy and the us open, but now that he has played a lot in rio im worried that he might not be able to win cincy and shorten the gap between him and djokovic

Federer's record? Pretty sure it's Sampras who holds the record for most YE#1.

I never understood that.
No tennis fan deserve any credit in any of their idol's title. They win, you watch on TV that's it :)
And like you said, he is almost retired, has almost all the records, 3 slams ahead of Nadal and Sampras. Being a fan of Federer is almost as easy as being a fan of Bolt lol.

How can someone be imperialist against Great Britain?
(I can say this because I'm half British) :D

Good post though.

Difference being Murray has got two Wimbledon titles. Federer still hasn't got that Olympics Gold medal in singles and probably never will.

Mind you Fed is probably my second favourite player of all time, an absolute joy to watch when he's on. But some of his fans are being ridiculously harsh on Murray. Not that I care but it's weird. :)
What do you expect when you think Murray is better than he really is?

I can't say I've noted any such antagonism coming directly from Federer fans in particular, but if there is... I remember the days when Murray used to regularly be the pebble in Federer's shoe. In fact it's only in recent years that Roger has turned the rivalry comprehensively around. Federer used to always win the big matches, but Murray would always win more matches. Being the only guy in 2006 to keep Federer from reaching a final is also a feather he'll always have in his cap. I can see why that would irritate idiots.

I know I am implicated by having been, openly, an admirer of Roger, but can you really ignore the fact that for a great many people Murray is very hard to like?

Mary Poppins and Dick Van Dike?

What's next, comparing modern player's to the Teletubbies? Tinky Winky, Dipsy, LaLa, and Po.... the original Big 4!

I always thought they were bashing Murray because a) doesn't beat Djokovic enough in slams and b) is the frontrunner of the weak era Djokovic has been beating the last few years.

That's fair enough. But can you really ignore the fact that, despite your personal feeling towards him, his achievements still deserve respect even when they come against a player you admired more?

Fed fans always have a "bee in their bonnet" for a player that is a threat to Fed or has done something the "great one" hasn't done. Take it as a compliment.
Yes indeed. I was surprised by the amount of hate towards Monfils after he beat him in straights in Davis cup. Unfortunately was not enough for France to win the final.

It's not about Murray winning the Gold Medal. It's about Del Potro losing it to him. He had a super tough draw and played his heart out while Murray reached the final playing mugs and a tired Nishikori + he already got a Gold Medal. He ruined the day for everyone, Del Potro is such a cool guy and he will probably never get another chance to win the Gold. There were even tons of Brits who rooted for Del Potro, believe me.

If Federer had Murray's draw 4 years ago I don't think he would've lost a set or maybe 1 to Del Potro. Also, he's got enough achievements to erase the one thing that Murray has (a Gold Medal in singles) that he hasn't got.

Seriously, would you stop whining already! Murray was always the favorite to win that match vs Del Potro at the Olympics. Boo hoo about this player being tired or that player having a poor draw. All players have had good draws and bad draws and all players have had scheduling issues. Nobody cares. The player who is the last one standing is the best player for that tournament and that's all that matters. The record books don't care what the circumstances of a win are.

Murray is currently playing the best and most consistent tennis just as Djokovic has been playing the best and most consistent tennis for the past few years. Tomorrow another guy may step up and play the best and most consistent tennis for a period of time. Murray was better than Del Potro on the day for whatever reasons. The reasons don't matter one bit.

You complained when Djokovic was winning everything so now Djokovic loses a few important tournaments and Murray steps up and you are still complaining? Del Potro was never that consistently strong player and I doubt he will be now. The best we can ask for is that he will be healthy enough to be able to play some good tennis and challenge the other elite players once in a while. You're probably expecting more from him than he is of himself at this point. I'm sure given his circumstances he's happy to have a silver medal.

Lol@ at all the negative posts about Murray that metsman's been liking over the past couple of days. I'm beginning to think Andy slept with his ex girlfriend at some stage and he's still not managed to get over it. :D

Finally an interesting story (Del Potro's run) and Murray had to ruin it, lucky dude had such a pathetic draw while Del Potro had 3 quality players to go through.

That's enough for Murray and his lucky draws. He can't beat any good player when he's in form when it matters and it shall be confirmed again.

Murray is currently playing the best and most consistent tennis just as Djokovic has been playing the best and most consistent tennis for the past few years.

By default. Look who he's beating. Anyone worth mentioning? No Djokovic, no Nadal, no Federer. Only guys like Raonic, Berdych and Nishikori after a long match.

The state of the tour is a disaster.

They do to me.

One boring player replaced with an even more boring player. Look how excited I am. Look. At least there's no-one else in line and Murray is too old to really took advantage of it. Besides, Djokovic will come back soon and show him his place. There's something to look forward to even though it's only a short-term relief. NEED NEW GOOD PLAYERS.

He deserved the Gold just by beating Djokovic something Murray is unable to do unless Djokovic is way below average (2015 Canada) or exhausted after a draw from hell (2016 Rome).
