Mispronounce the last name of the greatest tennis player ever?

It's not that hard to pronounce Fayderer instead of feaderer, right?
I'm pretty sure the german pronounciation is correct, so its more like English 'Fay'. I can understand some commentators making this mistake, but seriously EVERY commentator out there, does this.

Am I wrong on the pronounciation myself?

I don't remember if this applies to his first name or full name, but I believe a fan asked him, on his website, whether his name was pronounced the English or French way and Fed replied that he had always pronounced it the English way.

Sorry for the pronunciation mistake. Not a native speaker, but still an annoyance since I'm on an English forum. Sorry for my mistake!

@Dlk: I think his first name is Roger (as in "Roger that", english) but that's because his mom is south african. I don't really know what 'feh' is, but I hear a lot of pronunciations with just a really short 'e' like in "instead" or to "marry". I would think this is incorrect and the pronunciation is like on the german link I send you. This has always been the way I spoke, and the english way has started to annoy me, once I watched more livestreams and other english commentary.

I would love for someone to shed more light on the correct way

As long as it's in an English interview, he'd probably say it the way he hears the commentators, announcers, ballboys, organizers, fans around the world say it.

Isn't the forvo.com website a user-edited one? I see no reason to treat it as a definitive source, when Roger himself pronounces it "Feh-derer" (@ 0:26).

Here's more confirmation. I found a vid posted during the 2009 US Open, where they had various tennis journalists pronounce the names of players from their own countries. The Swiss journalist's spot begins at 2:59, and it sounds like he pronounces it "Feh-derer" to me.

So that's a Swiss guy talking to the (Portuguese-speaking) Brazilians, which I think eliminates any chance of it being corruption by English speakers.

Exactly. Federer is very much aware of it being an english ad, so he pronouncs it in english. But I think that swiss guy has got it right.

German words don't use acute e. Only umlaut, even then not using the e vowel.

Even the Swiss don't really seem to do the Fay-derer pronunciation much themselves. It's barely there imo.

Not at all. The 'g' would be pronounced differently and the last 'r' not pronounced at all in French.

So in other words: it sounds very French because the R sounds like the R in the English pronunciation of the French capital

The correct prounciation of his name is FAYderer. (Swiss German). The English misppronouce not only people's names but every capital city in the world,,,except for Ottawa which should actually be prounced O DAH wa (Ojibwe language. It's an English speaking thing,,,gives the idea that we really don't care how you say it, we will prounce things to suit us. and no non English speaking person can prounce half the names of towns in England eg Warwick is pronounced Warrik
