Will Serena reach any slam finals or win a slam this year

You may want to get a little better look at how Maddison Keys is playing at the moment against much better competition.
Keys played Bouzkova, Stosur, Collins and Kvitova. That's pretty much on par with Serena's opponents (Giorgi, McHale, Siegemund & Anisimova). Anisimova didn't play her best last night but part of that was because Serena didn't allow her to. Once she gets her service games under control she's going to be the real deal and I hope she comes back strong with a good run in Melbourne.

That said we've seen this from Serena before where she can play lights out in earlier rounds but terribly in finals. It's clearly a mental issue more than a physical one despite her fitness not being at its peak.

You lost all tennis credibility when you put Collins and Kvitova on par with Siegemund and Anisimova.

Collins may not be on that level, but Kvitova certainly is. She's the best out of those 4 players when she plays well as a matter of fact.

Anyhow, I think Serena will win at least one more slam. Most of the draw is still afraid of Serena and loses to her on aura alone. The rest of the draw tries hard, but gets outplayed. The remaining handful that she's played in finals have managed to beat her comfortably sure, but counting out Serena while she's still making slam finals looks like it should backfire at some point. Hard to envision a scenario where she keeps making slam finals and losing. When she really is done for good she'll start losing early at every slam, not in finals.

I don't think Serena is done - but given the volatility of the womens game it won't be easy either.

That's exactly why I think she wins at least one more. It's not like a Federer 2015 situation (or any old age version of Federer bar 2017) where he's dealing with Nadal and Djokovic. There are no players with that type of consistency of performance in the women's game.

I know to some that puts them off watching the womens game but to me that volatility is usually a welcome respite from the formulaic mens tour.

I put Collins in there based on how she started off the season, playing very well.
To say that who Serena has played to in Auckland is on the same level as to what Maddison has played in Brisbane is completely foolish. Sam Stosur alone, had double the career singles titles then Serena’s whole draw combined!

And what has Sam done recently? You don't expect us to buy that beat really good 8 years ago means you're automatically still really good today, surely? Stosur spent most of last year losing in the first and second round of tournaments (including her most recent matches to the two players Serena beat in this tournament).

So she’s pretty much doing what McHale, Giorgi and Siegemund have been doing lately.
The point is Keys has had to play much better competition to get to her final than Serena has. Surely, you can see that!

Danielle Collins starting out one season really well doesn't make her some sort of world beater now. And Stosur is basically an afterthought now. If Madison Keys can't beat Sam Stosur in 2020 she should quit while she's ahead.

There's no marked difference in difficulty of the 2 draws. There rarely is in women's tennis tbh because too many players are ridiculously inconsistent from match to match. If Keys had run the gauntlet and beaten prime Henin, Capriati, and Venus you would've convinced me, but those players don't exist anymore. When I look at both draws I see one established good player now and that's Kvitova, but she's hardly what anyone would call consistent. At any rate, Anisimova could be on Kvitova's level on a match to match basis so I don't see any true difference there.

She is yet bigger again this season. Amazing! I can sit here and eat all the lasagna and chocolate chip cookies I want and still play about the same.
Apparently she thinks she can too.

In a Slam tournament she will get worn out by the end of week one like a $20.00 retread tire on a gravel road.
Count on it!

Well since she won in Auckland playing the doubles as well,it probably won't happen in Melbourne. Maybe at USO or W but will need a lucky draw again

Other than Kvitová who is like Keys a total Jekyl and Hyde, and I almost can't envision a scenario both play well in the same match, definitely not. Stosur is so completely washed up for years now, she is no better in terms of current ability than every single person you listed. I am sure if Serena beat Sharapova you would be mocking that, but even she is much better and less totally washed up than Stosur right now.

Get off your high horse. Rafa would be embarrassed to have you as a fan.
Anyway, hope Serena can get to 24. She deserves it.
I doubt Rafa would be against calling a loudmouth a loudmouth. She is bad for tennis unless you think becoming more vulgar is honoring the sport.

No, a men's tour with three granddaddies slaughtering two back-to-back, most loser-overloaded generations in the sport's history has hurt it beyond measure, and typical of the men's side, the so-called "next generations" all follow the same hack formula to this date, hence their being eternal, paid-up members of The Can't Win A Major Legion.

True on both points.
"Three grandaddies" lol. Yes, 33 YO Rafa and 32 Djoker are so over the hill, as opposed to 37 YO Serena going deep in tournaments after playing no warm ups. Embarrassing.

Will be interesting to see what happens with her after losing in FOUR slam finals since the pursuit of #24 began. She has made the finals of 4 of her 6 slams since coming back though, which is in itself impressive.
No. She is nowhere near fit enough. Still hits a good ball but her movement is a problem

Serena is not winning majors now, and even if she managed to win one more, the WTA has a large number of active majors winners who do not roll over for an older player. The ATP does not have anything of the sort, with the granddaddies eating it all up in a field populated by--up to this date--the loser members the Can't Win A Major Legion.

If we get more slam finals like the last 4-5, I am okay with these "granddaddies" continuing to win.

There is also a huge difference between uprooting the biggest names in bestof5 and bestof3.

WTA has no bestof5. Comparison flawed.

Because at WTA slams are NO DIFFERENT than regular events: bestof3.

Yes, Rafa would be embarrassed to have you or your views as a fan. He's as respectful as they come. Doubt he would share your views on Serena. Glad, her and her 23 slams **** you off. Keep going Serena.

Sad to see so many support a player who has threatened to kill an official on the court. We as fans should have higher standards.

Nonsense. Each is the format that's been in place. If the Can't Win A Major Legion is so untalented that they cannot beat the granddaddies, it has everything to do with an utter lack of court sense and talent, not the number of sets, which they are used to playing at the majors. It is no strain on them at all. The only strain they face is lifting their asses up to walk on a court and already shake the hand of the victor before the first serve.

You don't seem to understand. NextGen has beaten Big 3 many times in M1000s which are bestof3. They struggle to repeat that in slams.

Which are bestof5.

Women have no difference in Tier Is and slams, exact same format.

Kinda like adding 2 and 2.

So...

2 + 2 =...?

Answer at your own leisure.

Oh the drama. You think that was a death threat? How precious and perfect you are. Get up from that high horse of yours.
Pot and the kettle... All your replies are drama-filled.

Are you going to get this hiss-fitty EVERY time some says something against your idol?

If so, you will end up on heavy medication real soon...

Tip: chill.

Serena doesn't even know you exist. She doesn't need you "fighting" her "fights".

Which means they are losers as they fail to beat the granddaddies to win majors. The focus of the sport are the majors, not M1000s. Your excuse that they could do it in three sets, but not 5 makes no sense as it argues that the "Next Generation" tour-seasoned players are somehow not used to going all the way in 5-set events (yet the granddaddies are...), when that is utterly false. Either you are a professional tennis player accustomed to the match formats or the different events, or you are not.

They are the Can't Win a Major Legion for a reason: for long years up to this date, they are inferior. The women's tour does not suffer from that, as the older generations are being challenged and/or pushed toward retirement, whether they want it or not. That is a strong, healthy tour with a large number of active majors winners, as opposed to the men, where one loser after another simly ages and as of this date, achieves nothing at the majors--as in winning them.

The Narrative is such that she's bound to win one more for the sake of tennis popularity and similar. Not saying it will be rigged or anything but it's simply smelling that way - that she'll take a US open and hang up the racket.

Nobody is disputing that WTA has the OPPOSITE problem of the ATP right now. One is completely chaotic, the other total domination.

The point I made was simply a response to somebody (was it you?) actually comparing womens and mens slams.

Which is of course nonsensical.

I certainly have never given a death threat like your idol Sorena. Do better and have some standards rather than make excuses. Thankfully she is almost done and we won't have to watch her jiggling around the court with her flab hanging out for much longer or tolerate her abuse.

Serena is at the mercy of the draw more than ever. Since she's outside of the top 5 (and will likely remain so because she hardly plays outside of slams), she's liable to face a player who'd be favored over her as early as quarters. There are also a dozen or so players ranked below her who would make for really dangerous opponents even before quarters. See: Wang Qiang.

Of course, since recent WTA results have tended to be more volatile (insofar as there are more upsets), Serena will possibly catch some breaks and enter more favorable matchups in the later rounds. But I question her ability at this stage to win multiple consecutive matches against top 5 opponents. It's possible, but unlikely.
