Wilson balls

How... in the world... these can still sell and be promoted in the USA... is a mystery to me. Sure they are 50 cents cheaper than Penns, but they suck big time regardless; heavy, furry, and feeling a bit mushy right off the can; they are complete crap after only 1h of hard hitting. They sure must be paying a big amount to be the "official us open balls".

I just had to write that down, feels better already :) USTA, please stop using those in your tourneys.

And some of us feel that Penn balls are crap too. Play with what you like. I personally think Penn's are too freaking light.

Penn stinks too but ProPenn is very good. Dunlop is still favourite but seeing more+more Babolot and they're excellent too.

US open ball from Wilson are very good and BEST in the world today. so I assume you mean just regular Wilson stuff. US open balls are the best balls in the world. Penn ATP tour balls are real good I have heard but not sure how they compare.

Interesting :) In my view penns (pro or not) are def a tad lighter, indeed more bouncy and much more durable than any wilson balls (as in 2x easy). My 2 cents and a half.

Depends on surface it seems. On the public courts I do most of my playing & teaching, Penns don't bounce nearly as consistent as Wilsons, nor do they last as long. But people tend to buy Penns around here because they're 25-50 cents cheaper than any other brand.

I've been using Slazenger hard court balls. but wanted to save a bit of money so tried the Wilson US Open extra duty balls. They're pathetic after about 2 hours of play. Back to the Slazengers.

I totally get that we all have different taste and all, and some peeps will prefer heavier balls that bounce less than others, why not. That being said, i know very few 5.0+ guys (1 or 2 max) who like wilson balls; the heavier you hit the ball the more you will notice the difference in durability... so most recreational players probably won't see much difference anyway, in which case the 'us open sponsorship' sure is a useful sells pitch.

The regular duty are OK but the extra duty fluff up like crazy. I've been testing Wilson prototype balls and one of them fixed the issue. Hopefully they switch to that formula.
