Wilson PS 6.6 tour 'stars and stripes...today's equivalent?

I am a 4.5 player currently playing with an outdated Wilson Pro Staff 6.6 tour 'Stars and Stripes' racquet endorsed in the mid 90s by Jim Courier (95 sq. in. frame). I was previously playing with a prince morph beam which had a much wider beam and less weight. But after breaking strings in both racquets...I borrowed my dad's old racquet (Stars and Stripes) to hit with...and to my surprise the racquet hit beautifully. My question is: what pro staff model today most closely resembles this Stars and Stripes racquet?

I've had difficulty finding the specs on this racquet, but after demo-ing the Wilson PS tour 90...I think it's safe to say it is a tad lighter. I am currently looking at a number of replacements: Wilson Hyper PS 5.0, Wilson Hyper PS 6.1, , Wilson PS Surge 5.1, and maybe even the Wilson PS ROK. I demoed the wilson ps tour 90 and just couldn't adjust to the added weight it seemed. Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Firstly, there is no current equivalent to yesterday's racquets. If one is lucky, there's a current racquet that is fairly similar - but forget about finding something 'equal'. The better yesterday's racquet was (is), the less likely one is to find a current model that is similar.

That said, I almost bought a barely used stars &stripes 95 a few years ago. I got some good hits in with it. Of today's frames, I'd say one that is fairly similar would be the iPrestige MidPlus standard length.

I too used to use the 6.6. I then switched to the PS 6.0 85 when I was playing a lot as a 16/17/18 year old. Now I am playing a lot less, I find it too demanding and so have picked up the old 6.6's again. They are beautiful until you get to the net. I am looking for something to replace them with. Found the Tour 90 too clumsy, and wanted something closer to even balance, but most new rackets are too light, too heavy or don't have that Wilson feel I have become accustomed to. The 6.6 is good because it has a boxy-ish beam, and although light, is a perfect platform fo lead tape customisation. Sadly, as I said, I can't volley with it for love nor money (too used to that wonderful PS 6.0 feel). My plan now is to look to the Asian models of the Tour 90 or the new Ncode tour, as they are lighter than the US and European models, and use lead if required. If you prefer a 95 head, you start to move way from the box beam, but apparently there are some Tour 95s with box beam out there somewhere!

nothing from wilson, Deuce is correct, IprestgieMP, but I would add Dunlop 200G Hotmelt since it is stiffer and closer to the PS 6.6 95 in terms of stiffness

I have few brand new ones for sale if anyone is interested

I'm currently looking at the original Wilson PS 6.0 95. As I said earlier, I don't know the exact specs of the 'stars and stripes' racquet. But if anyone could do a quick comparison of the two racquets, I would truly appreciate it.

SS is 18X20 but hey what the hell, what is the diffeence between 18X20 and 16X18 ps 6.0 95, few strings shouldn't matter, oh and the SS is almost 19mm beam width while the PS 6.0 is 17mm, but what the heck who can really tell the difference between 1-2mm anyway, 99% of the population can't, right ????

michael, thanks for the comparison. there obviously seems to be some discrepencies between the two racquets.

The new nSIx-One 95 is the cats PJ's .. wait a couple weeks and demo one. I'm anxious to see if everyone likes it as much as I do... so much quicker in my hands....
