Wilson Racket Choice - advice needed please

Hi everyone, appreciate some advice please. Am from UK and have played for last 13 years with a Wilson NCode six.one team (European vision) which when I first used it was amazing like a recovery golf club. I am an intermediate player who plays in my local club box league - so not a Pro but ok.

Last week a friend gave me a Wilson six-one 95s to try and it felt amazing and totally refreshing, like the latest recovery club of the new century. Net felt lower on shots and court felt longer - perfect.

So do I go for this as a new racket - believe both are 95 square inches (so same size?) which I understand is not the norm anymore and probably not helping me as much as the new technology and bigger heads out there.

Or is there an even newer Wilson edition to the six-one 95s which will play like these two but with a slightly bigger head that will be even more forgiving and help me all round?

Someone suggested the following alternatives;
Wilson Burn 100s
Wilson Burn FST 99s
Wilson Blade 98s

I can't demo these so thought I'd ask the great advice of everyone here.

Thank you for your help

If you like the Six One 95s they are on clearance so you could get a good deal there. The whole six one line has been dropped in the US, leaving only one version of the six one team that is very light. There look to be two lighter models offered in the EU as well as the anniversary 18x20 model.

I'm not sure if your Wilson NCode six.one team is the same as was sold here in the US. What string pattern, weight, and balance does it list in the throat?

Thanks;

Pattern: 18x20
Weight: 289g
Balance 33cm / 4 HL
Length: 68.6cm
Head size: 95"

I can get two six-one 95s for £180 in a L4 grip. Should I just go for it knowing it's a big improvement on the NCode I have or do you think one of the above rackets with bigger head may be even better? Am assuming 95s is same head size as my NCode.

Thanks

Get the 95S while it's still available, awesome deal on the frame currently.
Think I am being swayed to do that. I can only get an L4 grip for £90 each. If I go for a L3 then £70 but thought it best to get the right grip size and can always decrease it slightly with a thinner grip if ever needed. But to go from an L3 to close to L4 with shrink tube and overgrip might make the whole feel too different.

So money aside, the burn 99s, 100s fst and blade 98s will feel very different from six-one 95s - good advice

Hi I have the 6.1 95s plus prostaff 95s and blade 98s 2013 version . My default racquet is the blade. It is softer then the 6.1 but has the same control and is much better for serving. I hit further up the hoop for serves and the blade seems more powerful there giving better serves. I still like the 6.195s though and often keep it in my bag.

The prostaff is the nicest feeling racquet I've ever hit a forehand with but is very low powered and serves are weak as a result. Hope this helps.

Great advice - so from your experience Blade 98s is identical feel in terms of control but better serves and more powerful and perhaps more forgiving with a bigger head. Even more confused whether to get blade 98s or six-one 95s :)

If you hit with and liked the six-one 95s I think that is totally the way to go. It is fairly close to the racquet you use now in specs, likely has a similar feel, control, and power. It also generally got good reviews and are at closeout prices.

The blade 98s has good qualities but you'd be trading in the familiarity you have with the six one.

I'd go with the Burn FST 99s. It's Wilson's take on modern tweener like Pure Drive or APD but still have that Wilson feel to it. Just add some weight to the 12 and butt cap, and you should have a racquet that swings like your current racquet but with modern power and and spin.

thanks everyone - think i will go for the six-one 95s and get a L3 grip and build it up with an overripe - superb price on here.

Last question, what string should I get - I was going to go optimum mid tension 56 (range being 51 to 61). I was thinking of RMP blast 16 but not sure what was best to take advantage of the spin whilst offering durability. Again am just an intermediate local club player.

I'll suggest the conservative route and string it with something you have used and liked since your previous racquet is a 18 main 6.1. I have a habit of trying too many new things at once, then have trouble telling which part is not working for me.

If RPM then 17 if the more friendly gauge.

thanks moon shot - whats the difference between 17 and 16 in the rpm? Sorry for the questions!

17 is thinner and softer, unless you have a really open pattern or a penchant for breaking them the thinner should spin better
