Have a friend who played 5.0 as a junior and went with the juice pro as his new stick..may want to give that one a run.

I dont know, you should narrow down what type of racquets you liked to play with first.

Kind of hard to ask for recommendations when you basically throw an entire line up in there, ranging from traditional/player's racquets to tweeners.

You are a 5.5 and you need to ask people here what you might like? What do you play now. How can you be a 5.5 and have a crappy backhand?

My thoughts exactly.

OP, what do you use now? Why is your backhand crappy and why is that relevant? And how does a 5.5 not know how to pick out his own racquet?

Ok, I'll bite:
Pros - They all hit tennis balls
Cons - ?

You will want to lead up the Juices and the Steam as they are a little light for a high level player.

The other Wilson frame to consider is the BLX Blade 98... it's a little more forgiving than the BLX 6.1 95's, awesome control and super plow. The 6.1 95's and the Blade 98 are my favorites!

Ok guys I've got this one...

1.) You are not a 5.5 NTRP rated player
2.) Go demo racquets!

The only way you're going to find out what works for you is to try out some frames.

Look, I'll leave the first sentence alone and focus on your original request. No one on here can tell you any more than the listed specs on those racquets. They're all good racquets and suit different players. You have to try out racquets to get a feel for them. What they're strung with matters little; what you need to do is feel the weight and balance and see how you hit with each one. Also, you can restring the demos if you want when they get to you.

Wooahh bro... calm down!

I wasn't calling you a 5.0 with 3.0 consistency...... I was calling US 5.0s with 3.0 consistency.

If you play 5.5 level, you should have included more info. A list is not gonna cut it. Most (if not all) of the players that will post a recommendation are nowhere near your level, so their opinions are going to be useless to you anyway.

Best thing is to demo from TW. You get to keep the racquets for a week, so you can try your strings/tension all you want.

BTW- I'm known for taking out 5.0's.... the only thing that can beat my 6.0 strokes, is my 3.0 consistency. ;)

Um, give the chap a break. He could well be 5.5 and not have a clue about rackets. He's 14, what does he really care all that much, and one of the worst things you can do is over scrutinise your setup. I would also imagine the 'crappy 2handed back hand' comment was relative to the rest of his game.

To the OP, given your level and previous racket, the BLX 95 18x20 would probably be the best choice. The higher SW will help considerably at that level. If you have good rotation (which you will have at 5.5), the SW won't be an issue.

yeah, you tell 'em!

anyway, it'll also help if you describe your playing style (baseline/S&V/etc).. the more info you give us the more we can advise. still, you know your game best and demoing is the way to go. there are many threads here on the racquets you've listed so a little research can go a long way.

But wait there's more!

Here he was a year ago claiming to a be a 16 year old 4 star. So he moved up to a blue chip and got 3 years younger?

I knew it was goofy from the start. Only 14 years old and a 5.5, yet clueless about frames and strings.

I love it when people self rate!!!!

Alright, I feel bad about my comments. Probably a 15yo. I'm spiced up at the moment with some Sierra Nevada cans and felt kind of 'daring'.

OP- Let's have an intervention. How long have you really been playing? What don't you like about your current racquet? Have you ever considered a lessons package from a pro?

We're here to help.

OP, these guys are just haters. I know what it's like to lose to a 12 year old girl at the age of 16 during a period where I was playing some of the best tennis of my life. I was good enough to play DIII tennis and know that I probably still would have lost to a ton of 14 year old during that period as well. I've witnessed first hand the amazing game that some juniors have. I had no clue about racquets then and only when my game suffered did I truly start to investigate better racquets (I played with a 6.1 classic back then).

I've worked at a tennis specialty store for the past year with one of the biggest racquet selections on the east coast. Coming from the Speed 315 18x20 and going to wilson, I would personally go with the six.one 95 18x20. Despite a high swingweight, the six.one swings very easily so you'll get the added plow through while being able to possibly accelerate your backhand side in the future.

I think string pattern is more important than head size for you. I would stay away from the Juice and Steam unless you thought more pop would benefit your game (more pop is attractive but it might take a much longer time for you game to adjust). Juice Pro seems like a good one to consider but I haven't played with it personally so I can only go with what my co-workers have told me - stay away.

just my 2 cents. good luck.

I own and hit with the BLX Blade98 and the Juice 100 (Leaded up) and love them both for different reasons. I am actually trying to determine which will be my primary. My suggestion is these 2, strung with a good 17" poly @ around 50-52lbs.

I would say I have 8.0 serve and 7.5 forehand but sometimes my consistency is 3.0 as well as my mental, go for the blx 6.1 95

Try the wilson blx 6.1 95 18x20. It has a good balance 8 points HL, a 22mm oval beam that is medium flex with good power, a decent swingweight for a 5.0+ at roughly 335 grams, and good feel. This racket is used a ton by pros and advanced players for a reason - it is a really good racket. If you get 2 or more, ask the shop to make sure they are "matched" - exact balance, static weight and swingweight. TW will match them for you but they charge $10 per racket.

The 16x18 version of this racket is also good - I played it for awhile. But, it is more lively. I play old man 4.0-4.5 level. Most players above this level need the 18x20 for control.

The Juice and Pro Open are thicker beams which will likely be a big switch from your IG Speed 315.

Jeeez, give the kid a break.....This thread isn't about whether he's a 5.5, 4.5, 10.5, or 95.5. Who cares what rating he is? Let's just assume that he's an up and coming talented junior and lets stay on topic because this thread's going nowhere otherwise and he's asked a legitimate question about racquets. (That said, I don't think there are many 14 years olds who are true competition level 5.5s given that you'd be playing against adults. I'm not even sure Gage Brymer was at that level at 14 y/o)

Anyway, getting back to the original question...

I've played with practically all of those racquets on the original list (the racquets I've used for the last 4 years as my primary sticks were the K6.1s and then the BLX 6.1s). I'm going to stick my neck out and say that the best racquet in the entire Wilson range for someone who's a good competitive level player but who isn't at the pro level is the BLX Juice Pro. I love the 6.1s as well but its a racquet that makes you work that much harder to achieve the same result, whereas the JP is more forgiving and gives you an easier ride when you're less than 100% or when you're put in a stress situation during a match.

I recently switched to the JP from 4 years worth of 6.1s (and a brief 3-4 month dabble with the YT Prestige MP) and I think its just a fantastic stick, particularly off the ground. One of the best new racquets Wilson have brought out in ages IMO. It's just a shame that because of the lairy paint job it doesn't attract more buyers. Be aware that as with all things Wilson, there are noticeable weight variances from factory, so if you're thinking about buying get your sticks specced by TW.
