I took a short clip recently, just 2 or 3 forehands before the camera fell over (very windy day).. i noticed i am possibly doing some form of a windshield wiper forehand, but i may not be, not too sure..

what do you think:

I hit with an eastern forehand, i am a bit oblivious to the motion of the windshield wiper forehand.. i usually associate it to more extreme gripped swings..

looks like WW (more like a federer windshield wiper, very horizontal swing path, same grip, .)
Doesn't necessarily have to have extreme grips although that is usually prefered.

It does look like a Fed WW Forehand. You are certainly not hitting from more of a classic style. At least you are getting some bite on the ball with that eastern forehand.

thanks for the replies, its interesting since the wiper motion is something im not consciously trying to implement..

They do. You just don't tend to get under the ball. You're be able to see through your racket head face. The frame of the racket never points at you during the followthrough, which is what really determines a WW and an classical old school forehand.

sorry what do you mean by seeing through the racquet head face.. at what point? and by the racquet not pointing at me in the followthrough?

Your swingpath and racquet head speed seems decent to me - at least from the first video.

My feedback for improvement would be to use your legs more. Get lower to the ground and use your legs to spring up and into the shot.

Good Luck! K_I

i dont understand the ww fh yet. i feel like its too late to learn a new fh. anyway in the lendl's poster: "forehands speak louder than words" i'm pretty sure he finishes high over his shoulder.

i've got other things to work on and improve other than my fh right now.

Stop your swing when it's in front of your body. Does the racket face point at you so you can see the strings or does the edge point at you? I guess you could consider it a semi-ww forehand? :-?

To me it looks like a WW.

trying a shadow swing, i think the strings face me for a shorter time then on the FYB vid.. it seems to occur, but not for the whole follow through
