With the proper mentality what Tomic would have archived?

Consistent top 20 career? Solid hard and grass results.

Not much more cause he has a lot of liabilities and his early results were bigger than his talent

I think personally he world have for sure spent some seasons in top 10 (maybe 4-5) and he would snatch a Slam in the right conditions.

Maybe AO or Wimbledon.

He reached World No. 16 without even trying at a certain point.

Flat forehand, great slice, good serve and a very good touch. Good weapons for fast surfaces.
Also a great tennis IQ for me.
He wasn't a phenomenon phisically, but with proper training he would have reached a good point there too.

The problem is he never even beat a Big 4 player. His return is really bad its so many weaknesses he cant make up for it

People figured out his game. Like every game gets figured out at that level. Some are good enough and strong enough mentally to adapt and change. It's not exactly clear what Tomic could have done to win enough matches to stay highly ranked. But he is good enough to remain Top 50 I think.

In some sense, he's a good junior. The tennis world is littered with these guys. Tomic managed to carry it into the pros for a few years. He made headlines because he has an eclectic style. But he was never destined for long term success at the highest level with the way the game is played now. No chance.

As R2473 says:

I’ll go further by saying that in the 70s-mid 90s, he would have thrived WITH the right mindset. In this current age of polys/copolys, stylistic and court homogenization, he’ll never have consistently great results. He has almost no spin or racket head speed, so his timing and placement must be perfect. Throw in his lack of movement, and he’s cooked.

Having said that, his talent is sick good IME—fantastic massaging the ball/touch, super slice, can play net decently and with good upside, decent serve with huge upside, etc. I actually enjoy his game; too bad he’s seems to be an a-hull.

Guy is an absolute legend off the court, by far the nicest player I've met and parties like an animal, can't work out why so many people hate him tbh - just cause he's lazy?

+1. He's not a bad person, he's always hated what he does as a pro tennis player. He was forced into it by his father (who by many accounts was an abusive parent) and reportedly suffers from some form of depression. I always assumed he's a chill person who just doesn't love tennis.

I reckon he'd be a dangerous floater, rack up a few 250's and 500's, reach Slam QF's every once in a while, maybe a semi or two, spend some good time in the top 10. He has a good flat FH and plays smart, but I don't really see him as a major contender because he lacks the movement and rally consistency for top 5 standards.
Overall someone like Gasquet or Simon.

Could have been his generation’s Miroslav Mecir. Had he evolved his game a bit more he could have easily grabbed a Wimbledon title or two.

tomic and dimitrov are only as good as their achievements speak of them, nothing more than that........easily the two most overrated players from the previous decade.........

If he could move properly, then he could get a GS easily on grass or a faster hard, but his footwork is pretty poor and the biggest weakness of his game. Even when he is trying hard, it is still weak relative to the rest of the field.

i think he could’ve done very well
Not sure he would’ve won a slam but firm top 10 player if he gave a ****

But he doesn’t care, and he’s never improved his game. It’s got considerably worse in fact.
He has crazy feel and disguise on his shots, and he also has the height for easy power and an excellent serve. He would have slotted in great back in the day when there wasn’t such an emphasis on conditioning and grinding.

To be honest he is a big guy that hits hard, needs a ton more to be up there. Lacks shot variety, selection and everything else.

Reminds me of the movie Big with tom hanks, a kid in an adults body
