Yonex Poly Tour Spin

I've been testing a couple of shaped poly strings lately, and so far, Volkl Cyclone has been the one for me. I'm curious to try the Yonex Poly Tour Spin string, as it sells for the same price as Cyclone over at TW Europe, but I have no idea of what I can expect from it (no TWU lab data). How would you describe it, and how does it compare to a string like Cyclone? Thanks!

ive never tested cyclone, but ive given it to my stringer to put it in.

tour spin- so far is my fav poly, low powered- but over time it does become more powerful and less spinny.

very high control - as it grabs the ball, brilliant for slices and kick serves.
you dont get much feeling with this string - its very muted exactly like poly tour pro.
spin- very good like bhbr in that category, a category behind solinco tour bite, depending how much spin u play- i found that the string loses its edges (9hrs for me)-thus becoming less spinny and more powerful.

for me - durability was fine, but i remember few people saying it broke 4 them, not for me, tension maintenance was better than most poly's

I have played both, any like the Cyclone MUCH MUCH MUCH better, and I am a yonex-junkie. The Yonex PTS was honestly my least favorite shaped poly and it moved so much on the string bed without getting back into position. Just not much feel there, and the Cyclone string has such a nice feel, for the money stick with Cyclone.

agree with the feel part, cyclone very crispy, ive got the 18g- i thought it would have more spin tbh, 18 gauge has decent power

but i preferd poly tour spin - just had more spin/bite on ball and noticeable more controlled - not saying cyclone is bad in this category, as its very good.
I got used to the muted feeling off PTS, and it lasted me for ages.

I should have really bought the 17g cyclone, as the 18g my shots just go out for me - due to the power (its not a powerful string) but for my strokes (deep flat hitter) alot of my shots went up to 3 inches out - thus why i said should have bought the 17g.

Cyclone feels very similar to bhbr to me but ive only used it for 6hrs, both very very crispy poly's, but cyclone gives you more spin

Any thoughts on hybridizing it w a multi?

I hybridized both YPTS and Cyclone with N.vy 1.30mm (synthetic gut). I didn't like the Cyclone/n.vy setup, because it felt like the n.vy was taking over the Cyclone, therefore it felt like I was playing full synthetic gut.

I LOVED the YPTS/n.vy hybrid. It gave the YPTS much more power, feel and comfort and the YPTS was still 'dominating' the N.vy.

To answer Op's question, I think both Cyclone and YPTS are excellent strings. The YPTS is a bit more low-powered, but I string full bed poly's usually low, so it doesn't bother me.
In terms of top spin, I would say cyclone is slightly better. I think YPTS has slightly more control.
You should definitely try the YPTS, it deserves a chance!
Out of the 2, I think I prefer YPTS, mainly because it's better in a hybrid and I need the extra comfort due to sensitive arm. In a full bed, I think I like both equally.

I use both!

In my Xi98, I put in PTS at 45. It's a 16g string. I put in Cyclone at 52. It's an 18g string.

1) PTS trampolines a lot more, but the control is still there
2) Cyclone is crisper and has a little more control
3) There is more spin with PTS
4) Neither have that horrible metallic pinging sound
5) Cyclone is slightly easier to string

These are opinions, not facts. Your results may differ.

PTS is a great string but is not very comparable to a Polybreak. PTS is quite low (similar to 4G,BBO, B5E) in power but is one the best spin based string I have used. Feel is not on par with Polybreak IMO. Honestly I have not found anything remotely close to Polybreak yet. I did like this string but feel it pairs better with a higher powered stick. I will be interested to hear your thoughts.

I wonder if this string is just blue B5E.

Ok cool. Yeah I will let you know for sure. It's been a year and a half and nothing has beaten Polybreak, so this would be surprising.

I'd take YPTS over Cyclone. I have tested them both and PTS became my standard string .

I need to try PTS at higher tensions. It's sweet at 45 in an EZONE Xi 98. Seemed a little stiff for my taste in higher tensions in the EZONE and VCORE Tour 89.

I might play around with it in the RQiS 1 Tour.

Really like this string. It does not beat out polybreak for me, but it still is a very good string that I am enjoying in the mains.

It plays softer and less crisp than polybreak, and as a result the ball feel suffers a little for me. The spin is not bad, but the string movement is there. With polybreak, the strings snap back over and over across the syn gut crosses.

So as a result, there are some slight playability differences, but nothing that is earth shattering. I could definitely use this string if I could not get polybreak, but it still does not top it.
