Your favorite players outside the big 4 to watch

My favorites are
1. Monfils
2.Dolgopolov
3.Theim
Liked when Monfils played Federer on clay. Great match.
Saw Dolgopolov play Federer and it was one of the few times Federer was not the shotmaker in the match.
Like Theim and what he does with the ball. You don't see to many jumping OHB all the time.

Tsonga and Dolgopolov top this list for me. I always wonder why Dolgo didn't achieve more. Do love Thiem and Nishikori as well.

Dustin Brown on grass.
All French players except Simon.

I like Dustin Brown on the quick courts to he gets into net as fast as he can and goes for the highlight reel shot every time its part of the reason he struggles to stay in the top 100. Gulbis has a great backhand and good hands as well, one of the worst looking but oddly effective FHs of anyone over the age of 9. Plus he is a comical interview, another guy who just doesn't have consistency and is ranked way lower than he should. Jerzy Janowicz is another of the lower ranked players that plays an all out attack game and Rajeev Ram is another one also mainly a doubles guy.

Dolgopolov is not a big guy either in height or weight and he goes for so much and hits so flat that he typically has a lot of ups and downs and loses many a match in a flurry of errors. He just doesn't have the horse power of the bigger guys but he redlines it and hits as hard as anyone and that creates a very high risk style.

Feliciano Lopez.

Also, I think the current state of men's tennis is such that there's a big one, then a "pretty big" four that seems to remain pretty stable. I see no reason to relegate Stan to any group below Fed/Murray/Rafa, rather than sticking him in with them.

Really? You must be new here and you might wanna tell Stan himself that since a few days before he played (and got beaten) by Murray he said that its a big 4 and that Murray is miles ahead of him in terms of finals, semi finals and results. Wawrinka is rightfully placed in a teir below the Big 4, slam performances included or not.

Humility; nothing more.

Borg has more slams than both of them combined, but is he "part of the big four?" No, because his superlative results are ancient history. Wawrinka's relevant right now. Is a threat to any of the others on any surface at any tournament, and has slams each of the last two years. Murray hasn't won a comparable title since 2013.

Murray's career is no doubt the greater, but Wawrinka is at least as relevant on the biggest stages now.

Won't dignify the "must be new here" part with a substantive response.

Stan is my guy, so he's my favorite to watch. :)

Besides him, there are so many. There are some that I look for during the early rounds of a slam when there are too many matches to watch, like Paire, Stepanek, Brown, Gasquet, Monfils, Nishikori, Dimitrov, Garcia-Lopez, Mahut, young guns (including non-stars like Nishioka, Chung, and Ymer). Oops: and Delpo! (How could I forget him?) But there are many times I find myself enthralled by a match that I just happen upon, like Simon-Pella at RG. I've since become a fan of Pella, but it's something that sets tennis apart from other sports in my viewing, that I can watch anyone and enjoy the match just as much as if my favorites were playing, if the battle is fierce and the tennis is good. It doesn't matter who is playing whom. There are more matches like that than the tour gets credit for.

EDIT: @TupeloDanger Stan is modest, yes, but he is also very direct and pragmatic and cuts through unnecessary BS (eg. the questions he keeps being asked). That's one thing I love about him. He meant what he said about his career in comparison to Andy's. ;)

:D

I think that Goffin is the next generation's version of Berdych.

A very long list, with the danger of forgetting some, I always tend to root for:
Wawrinka, Deliciano, Mahut, Goffin, Thiem, Dolgopolov (when not clowning around), Stepanek (ugly guy with fantastic tennis), Karlovic (guilty pleasure :D ), Kohlschreiber, Del Potro, Brown, Tsonga (get well soon, please!), Monfils, Baghdatis, Llodra... and I'm sure I'm forgetting quite a few!

Not going into the list of retired players. Would take a page or two. :)

Pretty bad and negative attitude you know the gap at the highest levels in tennis in terms of quality between a guy in the top 5 or 20 or 30 is really very small if you watched any of these guys live or up close your jaw would drop with the shots they hit.
I see you're new here. ;)
