Zverev is doing what Medvedev should do

He's playing a 250, to clear his mind from his disappointing defeat in the 4th Round in Melbourne. Medvedev's defeat and the way it happened could destroy a tennis player mentally ala Coria at the French Open in 2004. If I lost in a 5 setter at a final of a slam after being 2 sets up I would go enter a 250 and try to put a monumental defeat in the shadow. Something happened to Andy Murray in 2010/2011 when he lost at the Australian Open finals, his form just went and he was in limbo till Wimbledon came around, you know why? He relived those moments of getting completely outplayed by Federer and Djokovic respectively.

Medvedev will either learn from this or he will never be the same because such a defeat is devastating mentally/emotionally.

Nah, I don’t think Medvedev is going to go into a tailspin bc of his failure to close out a 2-0 sets lead at the AO. He’s already a Slam champion and he knows that he can go toe to toe against the big guys. And as he is many years younger, time is on his side to have more opportunities. What I hope he learns instead is not to goad the crowd unnecessarily. Maybe in earlier rounds when the opponents are easier, having the crowd rile you is manageable but when you are facing a 20-time Slam champion, yeah, you don’t want the crowd to be a second adversary to deal with.

When I saw Tim wandering around on his phone after losing the AO final, I knew he was toast.

Let’s not confuse activity with progress folks. If I was in Med’s setup I would advise him to take a break and soak that one up properly because he needs to make some real changes and they’re not easy.

Med is the only player among the «nextgen» that has shown he is closing in on his mentors in the art of winning the big titles, in the last rounds of a heavyweight match.

At 5-5 in the fifth, you need the mental strength to make the right choices, which seldom are going for your second serve (Zverev), DF’ing (Zverev), drop shots (Med). Nadal just keeps a constant pressure on the thumbscrew.
