The toughest draw of all time: Nadal at Wimbledon 2019

Krish0608

G.O.A.T.
Kyrgios will lose R1
Tsonga will lose to Shapo
SHAPO will kill another umpire and be defaulted up 2 sets to 1 on RAFA (@Red Rick )
Cilic will cry again

Crisis averted
Something similar might happen and Rafa's draw might not turn out to be so bad after all. I've seen many many "hard" draws just dissolve. It's all possible. But yes, on paper it's a mighty tough draw.

Genius thread, seriously. Build up your guy to have the hardest and best earned slam of all time by going through the ultimate gauntlet. When he wins, he just accomplished the most difficult slam in history.

If he loses, well, it is to be expected as this is the "toughest draw of all time." Simply got cheated by Wimbledon.

Win win. Pure genius.:p

I agree.

But if Rafa goes through his projected draw and wins, i have to give it to him:)

Anybody who gets through any draw deserves it. Yes, Rafa probably has the toughest draw, and if he wins it all it will be a huge statement. But this draw is not a "tough draw." Maybe this just shows how weak the current field is.

Sure! I agree its not a tough draw but its a tough early draw for Rafa. Big servers are the worst opponents for him in early rounds, so Nick, Tsonga and Cilic are definelty bad news. Rafa would love to switch with Thiems R1 to R4:)

Nadal's draw looks tough on paper but let's be objective here.

R1 Sugita = Ok he will probably win
R2 Kyrgios = Yeah this is a tough match on paper but Kyrgios is in mental breakdown mood this year, I don't think he will hold it together to beat Nadal
R3 Tsonga/Shap = Shap? Give me a break, Nadal will roll over him like pastry. Tsonga is the issue here and he's still old and his best is long past him.
R4 Cilic = Again, on paper this is another tough match but Cilic has been garbage all year and lost to Schwartzman on grass. Hardly in-form and won't be too tough
QF Thiem = Give me a BREAK. Thiem won't even make it this far. I find it hard to believe he will even get past his R1 match and everyone else in this section is cake.
SF Federer = Yup. Tough.
F Djokovic = Yup. Tough.

It's a tough draw but toughest draw of all time? Hardly. Nadal should be beating all of these players routinely but because he's terrible on grass these days we're getting over the top reactions to the draw.

Federer will be haunted by their 2019 RG meeting, won't recover in time for the semifinal.
Djokovic will start preaching Amor y Paz and go through unmotivated phase again.

Also, notice the 2010s Wimbledon winners pattern. Nadal Djokovic Federer Murray Djokovic | Djokovic Murray Federer Djokovic _____ ?

Easy peasy.

There is no doubt Kyrgios will show up. He always plays his best against Nadal. And why are so many people underrate Thiem? He knows how to play on grass.

Nadal already had little chances to win Wimbledon before the draw (last year he was close to win), but with this draw he has literally no chance. Nor would Federer or Djokovic win with this draw. No one can. This is the toughest draw of all time.

Here is Nadal's draw:

1R: Sugita

2R: Kyrgios

3R: Tsonga/Shapovalov

4R: Cilic

QF: Thiem

SF: Federer

F: Djokovic

This is the most brutal draw the history of tennis has ever seen. Not even the US Open 1990 comes close to this. Sampras had to defeat Muster, Lendl, McEnroe and Agassi to win the US Open 1990. But Muster, Lendl, McEnroe and Agassi "only" sum 23 Majors between the four, while Cilic, Federer and Djokovic sum 36 Grand Slams between the three. McEnroe, Lendl and Agassi are "weak" ATG compared to Federer and Djokovic.
TOTLAL NONSENSE! Thiem has never won anything on grass, Cilic is a one slam wonder and notorious choker who has done nothing this year, Federer is or close to 38, Novak should be Nadal's only real threat

Probably because he's only got past the 2nd round once and his R1 this year is against Querrey. Also i hope you're right about Kyrgios but i just don't see it happening this year. He's been openly against clay and praising grass tho so it would be nice to see him knock Nadal out.

He played fine in Beijing 2017, but for once Nadal had a very good return and Kyrgios can't really do anything when his serve doesn't give him enough free points. After the first round it was one of Nadal's best hardcourt tournaments, sad it was only a 500.

Thiem has won a title on grass which included a win over Federer. (a pretty bad Federer but still it means Thiem can beat Nadal on this surface). Also reached a fourth round in Wimbledon 2017 and pushed Berdych to 5 sets.

Kyrgios will be extra motivated to win his 1st round match.
He's a bad matchup for Nadal, since the grass is still fast in the first week.
Rafa better do well in his service games because he can't afford to get broken. Kyrgios will be going all in.

thiem is facing querrey, who yes I know is still playing a tournament it hink eastbourne so maybe there will be fatigue, but i'd still favor querrey on grass over thiem.
to be fair regarding cilic, he wasn't doing too hot in 2017 either, he did get to teh final of queens so I'll give you that but who knows he can turn up for wimbledon

There will never be an end to SeedGate. It's gonna go on for years, no?

You have to wonder if someone at Wimbledon found a way to punish Nadal for complaining. After the bad blood between Nick and Nadal, you have to wonder if maybe he's going to go all out in this match just for revenge. Or if Nadal is going to bring it to defend his honor. ;)

Something tells me that if Nick wins his first match there are going to be a lot of people watching this matchup with popcorn.

Tsonga and Shapo won't hurt Rafa. Thiem is a clay courter.
Kyrgios and Cilic are the real serious threats here. Especially Nick. Probably the worst unseeded opponent for any top player to face.
If Nadal gets through this one and wins, it will for sure be his hardest earned one in a long time.

Tsonga is really coming in to form and will be a very tough out if Nadal manages to get past Kyrgios, which is a huge IF. Kyrgios plays hard against Nadal and he doesn't put up with his delay tactics when Nadal is returning serve.

Kyrgios, Thiem, cilic, Fed, Djokovic to get to a title?

Its one of the toughest, make no mistake. (Nadal would need to be 22 again to get through this draw) Only one tougher in recent memory from what I can remember is Pete's 2001 USO draw With Rafter, Safin,, Agassi, Hewitt

If Rafa can make through the earlier rounds and get into the second week, he should be able tonwin his 3rd Wimbledon singles title!

Nadal's draw is tough but can crumble. However it still doesn't compare to the RIGGED draw at AO 2017
Projected R3 onwards

Berdych-Nishi- No.1Murray- Last HC Slam champion Wawa - Rafael Nadal/Djokovic

That's already tougher on paper than all of Nadal's USO draws combine

( Note : I do agree USO 2013,2010 was so good that the draw wouldn't have mattered. But 2017 ? nah)

Stop exaggerating.

Federer is a 20 slam winners, but a 38 years old man is a shadowed of himself. Fed was much better in 2004 Wimbledon when had 2 slams.

Kyrgios is a head case. He could tank or walk of the court if he gets agitated. Talent means nothing if he's mentally fragile.

Tsonga past his prime.

Thiem has done diddly-squat on grass and it's his worst surface.

The NextGen are still incompetent.

Its a rough draw, but i can recall one of sampras being just as rough. From the round of 16 i believe he had Rafter, Agassi qf, Safin sf and hewitt final. Petes reward for getting through that gauntlet was a very easy win for hewitt in the final

While true, he's also capable of getting his head together for 3-4 hours. He does seem to care more when he plays the top guys. Assuming he doesn't d*ck away his 1st round match, I put it no worse than 50/50 whether he's serious or whether Kyrgios the Klown shows up.

Of course, if he did beat Nadal, chances seem high he basically takes a dump on the court in his next match.

I don't think there was a slam in 2004-2007 where Federer faced such a dangerous opponent in the second round.
Lol. Federer faced Henman in 2nd round of 2006 US Open, as well as the 2nd round of Wimbledon of that year. Henman had made the USO Semi-Final two years earlier. If that's not a dangerous opponent...

And in 2007 Wimbledon Federer's 2nd round opponent was an argentinean mug named Juan Martin Del Potro, followed by another weak era mug Marat Safin. Such easy paths for *********!
