Yes you can. In Florida in 2011 we had U10 rookie tournaments that were quickstart and and at the same time all other higher level U10 were regulation yellow ball/racquet length/court size. It was not confusing. It just made parents upset because they knew that in 2012 this option of regulation U10 would be gone because of the mandate. Most of the parents who are upset do not dislike QS. Most believe that if done correctly it can be great for the development of young children (ages 8 and under). But to mandate that all U10 be QS is just too much.

With all the recent changes I have come to believe that the USTA has it's hidden agenda and it's not to reduce travel or limit the number of missed school days. They are under the gun to produce the next American champion and it will try any idea to see if anything works. Limit draw sizes, increase wild cards, if any junior shows promise latch onto him/her and proclaim your greatness.

The USTA is the governing body of American tennis. It is a highly profitable monolith. What it says, goes. If you don't like it, too bad. Hopefully, after a few years it will see the errors of it's ways. But unfortunately a good number of juniors will have been screwed in the meantime.

They don't care who they mess up..... This is so sad.

If the goal is to reduce travel and make kids WIN their area then move on to bigger tourneys it makes sense. the wild card thing is weird though because the numbers are high. Make it 2 WC entries (not 6) and everyone else has to fight for the spots. seems fair.

to the complainers, why don't you start your own OPEN grand slam tournament and make over 200 million a year and start your own organization and get on the board, maybe someone will listen to you.

In the meantime, the spanish have produced how many top female players:confused: ( females do compete you know not only men) not a whole lot. Check out the top 250 ITF Jr female players where they are coming from? you guessed it right here in the US. Who are the top 100 ATP male players after the latest generation around the 1990 birth year  how many spaniards?!?! Riba:confused:

the french are producing the best talent out there, all the coaches from all over are saying the same thing. They have the $ from RG, a supportive french federation that promote the same teaching methods and (play and stay) which has been installed since 2005.

that is the idea, in Europe the travel time is small compared to the US

Heck hope on a train and you can play ITF Jrs and challengers anywhere

Let's see..... that would mean operating a not for profit company, pay no company taxes, yet have advertising on the web site, pay myself millions of dollars ( for a not for profit???) and not disclose my salary, give 40% of the wild cards to my players, bring in all my friends for jobs, even though there are better people out there, hire the cheapest coaches for the player development sites, fire them, fire the head coaches that disagree with me and have the audacity to go on a public record and say what is going on, fire the kids, injure the kids, change everything around, screw a thousand kids -

I believe it was a transition, a temporary transition and a transition is to make some folks happy, they can not make everyone happy. The only folks that are unhappy are the elitist parents that want to see Jr getting to #1 in U10, sorry it is not going to happen anymore. There are going to be no ranking in U10 anymore, bye bye good riddance.

The idea is not just any idea, it was a proven idea called play and stay in Europe since 2005. I could care less about producing champions right now, I want to grow the game, and by growing the game we might have something in 5-10 years. The next idea is to give $ to centers/coaches to teach the proper way and combine it with the teaching ways of mini tennis.

Elitest parents???? In N.E. you guys might need your 10s to play quickstart. In GA our tens dont need to go backwards.

Wow Pro Tour,

Way to communicate on a board in a respectful way.

If anyone has an objection, they are a "complainer".

I am from the NE and calling someone from the South, an elitist even rubs me the wrong way.

Southerners are the politest, nicest, down to earth group of people.

Elitist sounds like it would be cast towards the Northerners.

to the complainers, why don't you

Since '84, the USTA has made changes every few years in something, and the complainers come-out like cockroaches. That is why these kids don't win. If the tennis gods give commandments, then you better figure-out how to manipulate them to your advantage, just as you deal with your opponent and anything which occurs on-court. Or just lose as you complain your way down the ranking list.

I am not defending the USTA, I am playing devils advocate. The USTA can do whatever they want, they do have IRS guidelines that they follow. They do report their salary and file a 990 which is available to anyone. All the "profit" they make is given back to the community. If they don't the IRS will take their Non profit status. If you have problems with the USTA CEO getting overcompensated, file a complaint with the IRS and stop complaining on a tennis board website.
Like I said if I am running a 200 million dollar operation I would expect the higher ups to get paid. There are guidelines for fair compensation reports. Hospitals are so called "non for profit" yet they get money from the federal gov and they do not pay taxes, yet the CEO and CFO of these billion dollar hospitals do get paid in the millions. Do not get me into religion, they are non for profit and do not pay taxes yet these Bishops/Cardinals do get paid not only that, they want our money to get into heaven :) it is good to be the king is an understatement.
Maybe you should start making friends with the higher ups in the USTA so you can get a job  or start your own organization. Better yet do not pay the dues and tournament entry fees, go it alone, it is not the end of the world. There are many paths to tennis, take one and stop complaining about how things are unfair. Life is unfair.

You seem to be under the impression that the wild cards will be handed out fairly. Not likely. They will be given to their USTA High Development players who don't have to "fight for the spots". If you are a great up and coming junior playing in a local park or a small academy do you think that the USTA would even give you a second thought.

It makes me wonder why a highly successful juniors like Madison Keys (who was at Evert for years) is now playing at the USTA. Did they tell her that if you play with us we will give you the wild cards to jumpstart your career or if you stay with Evert make it on your own, no help. I know I sound like a conspiracy theorist, but when all these changes happen in such a short period of time with dubious explanations, the mind can go to strange places.

Sorta of like a Russian system. You are either on the inside or the outside.

Sure, life is unfair when you are on the outside of a corrupt system
and you can not vote out the folks.

N.E. is the strongest deepest section.GA and FL we suck. :)

nope never said that, I have said that the south are so ingrained in their way of things that it is hard for them to look at something new which might be good for them. This new QS idea was implemented first in NE and we were quick to adapt. It seems the southern sections were sleeping at the wheel. :)

tennis5, either you are naive or you have not lived in the corporate world. It is not a Russian system. The whole world operates like this. It is called a recommendation and compensation.

Everyone knows how the USTA operates it is not a secret.

Complaining about it on some message board is not going to change a thing. If you believe that then I am afraid you are more naive than I thought. I hope not.

Like I said I am not biased just a realist, thats all.

However I did manage to get $40,000 for our community through the USTA to rebuild our courts. Anyone can do the same, it just takes a little hard work in filling out paperwork. There are proper channels to do things, anyone can follow them, no need to know anyone. We have been complaining to rebuild our courts for 20 years until a group of dedicated people with grass roots efforts took on a $200,000 project which no one thought could be accomplished, but we did it.

sleeping at the wheel? really? our system was not broke we put MANY money making pros out there. You really have been brainwashed by the u.s.t.a and their idea of quickstart.I guess you have to belive in their flawed system to get 40 grand for courts. We dont need courts we just want whatright. And mandates arent right. You brought up the Civil war and why it was fought. They fought for states rights.Georgias 10s lost their right to compete with other 10s.Green ball quickstart all these ideas are a joke for a good 10 year old.Im glad u drinking the kool aid :) I still respect you and your opinions on things just not mandates.

I have been brainwashed by the "play and stay" system in Europe since 2005. We got 40 grand on one condition, put blue faded QS lines on our courts. If you are an elitist and do not want to put QS lines no dinaro, capiche. We rolled with the punches and got the money, it is called being smart. We are not purists, we want our courts ( realists ) even if I have to paint all sorts of lines on them we will.

BTW the civil war started because of slavery, the northerners wanted a changed and rightfully so. The southerners wanted to keep slavery. In the end change came late, it only took 100 years or so.

And for the last time, it is not a mandate, we can play anywhere we like. an advanced 8 year old can play low level U12 using regulation if he/she wishes. All their 8-10 year old buddies can play/meet in the same tournament and play under the U12 banner using regulation. It is not a crime like it is in the LTA where you can not play two years over your age. IF you need certain amounts of points to get into a draw to play regulation in U12 then I am against that. THAT IS BACKWARDS

The civil war was fought over states rights.Slavery wasnt the reason.Lincoln only made slavery an issue to get moral support.Lincoln wanted to restore the union.

Do you happen to know if she played any tournaments with these strange balls and if she did how old was she?
She trained at the MAC academy since she was a kid. I took my students there several times and spoke to the director and he supports these strange balls you speak of. Has been for a very long time, longer than anyone I know. She probably blew by them in few years and was playing regulation by age 8. The point is the reason why I brought her up was because there was a silly question that NE does not produce top players.

There was a top 5 U10 player out of NE who has been playing green for a year who went down to RickMacci and did well in the last regulation tournament FL had. He told me that the competition in NE was just as good as in FL only difference is that there are more ( as in quantity ) top players not necessarily better players.

I went down to Gabe Jaramellio academy and there were green balls all over the place in training. The top 10 year old happen to be the #1 U10 player in Australia. He is no better than the top 10 year olds in NE. So to say that the top U10 players in NE are not as good as the top U10 players in FL is not true. There are simply more of them down there. And for that larger group there bound to be better players coming out as they compete against one another in the U12 etc.....

Ask any money making pro if they played with quickstart at 10 and u will get the same answer. You talk about the French players how many were playing quickstart at 10?I like the green dot balls for my 6 year old but at 10?I just dont like the mandate. One more thing the north had slaves too.

I did speak with many french coaches I was at club med ( a french company ) there were many french coaches, everyone was speaking in french I thought I was in paris. :) They all said the same thing and support play and stay, they are all on the same team with the same coaching philosophy, only here were are ................ dysfunctional:oops:

If you are a junior player in France you have 75 TennisEurope tournaments each year for 12s, 14s, and 16s. When you reach 18s you have 73 ITF tournaments in Europe each year. If you think these kids coming out of France are only playing national tennis you are even less informed than I originally thought.

we know she trained with QS balls that is what I have been told by MAC ( did I see it with my own eyes? no) , I do not know if she competed in them, she could have with inter club matches, I will ask. The point is we have top elite players coming out of NE, which is what GA is mocking. BTW all of yous and everyone who trains in tennis has used green balls without knowing it, UNLESS YOU OPEN A NEW CASE OF REGULATION BALLS EVERY TIME YOU TRAIN.

I also did mention another NE QS player that I have seen with my own eyes and have trained with my own hands using green balls who have competed with green balls. He went down to Rich Macci and trained with all the 10 year olds and said the level was about the same, only that there were more quality players down there. There are several Top 10 year old QS veterans here in NE that are just as good as the top 10 year old players in FL. If we have a dozen here in NE there are 100 in FL that is the point.

yes you can twist and rewrite history all you want but the truth always comes out in the end.

GA just admit it, your are pissed that your daughter could not be #1 playing U10 regulation, that is the bottom line, it has nothing to do with anything. Had your daughter played regulation and was #1 in the girls U10 in GA using regulation balls and the year after QS passed in GA , you would have said QS was the best thing since sliced bread,,,,,,,,,,, Please, get over it, i beg you. BY NEXT YEAR YOU WILL NOT SAY A THING ABOUT THIS QS BUSINESS. Your daughter will be kicking butt in the 12's and I will not have to hear how you were disenfranchised:)

GA I never knew that teachers make a lot of money in order to afford new cases of yellow regulation balls every time you train. If your hooper/basket is used regulation, it is green, if you train on green why is it a crime to compete on green at 10? why not train with new regulation balls every time and compete with new yellow balls all the time at 8:roll: I have yet to come across this entire country with a Jr' that does this. It is amazing.

The parent's only have one experience: their OWN child, having only that particular experience and a different experience for every other child they may have. In addition, each age group and each group, are totally different. Kids in the 18's now, are always different from the kids in the 16's, when they get into the 18's. Now I don't know where teaching pros heads are, because unless I am running a club or running my own club, I try not to deal with them. But from my POV as a coach and manager, parent's tennis POV is very limited, even parents who were ex-players, because what was 20-30 years ago, is not what is, today.

Parents are there to fight for their own, as they should, which has nothing to do with the powers in control. Complaining is worthless, unless your complaints can change the system, and force the hands of those in power. good luck with that. I will manage my player's careers so that they successfully navigate the waters, passing the complainers by as they become successful in whatever the system is. You can complain about getting wet in the rain; I'm bringing a huge umbrella, or better yet, I'm paying someone to do it for me, and staying in my apartment.

Another thing I noticed that is different between the European coaches VS the US coaches is that when the Euro coaches site together they exchange ideas, they have a bond. The American coaches are engaged in a p i s s i n g contest and are very territorial as if someone it trying to steal their kids/ideas. Very different culture and mentality. All the french and spanish coaches have the same teaching system while in the US it is so liberal that it is proprietary. We are from the same country yet the North Easterners and Southerners are in disagreement. Very sad.

Agree, If your kid can not play regulation unless she earned certain amount of point to get into a draw that is wrong. That is not the case with other sections. I would be pissed as well.

I did not think teaching the progressions of mini tennis was possible using new regulation balls until Luis from RPT taught us. Not every coach is skilled enough to do this . We need a unified method of teaching the kids TCF was right . US coaches need to be humble. I was sketic and a critic at first and I put my money where my mouth is and learned new techniques. Techniques that I thought were impossible .

I am agaist this new 10 and under mandate at least the orange mandate which is different than the european play and stay system. I am totally against the LTA mandate, they are out in left field.

Good luck with that.

You managing your player's career without any WC to be one of the boys in a draw of 16 kids for a gold ball in 2014.

WC's have never been handed out fairly, it is the most politically corrupt aspect of the USTA. All those online forms filled out by players after an injury hoping for their break back into nationals, or whatever, aren't even reviewed. Haven't been for years. I know players that never worried about sectional endorsement because they knew WCs were waiting for them 6 months out. Just took a phone call.

Futures WCs - want to go there? Top 18s passed by to give a 13-14 year old that doesn't have a prayer getting through a round "the experience." Or better yet, let's give two 14 year olds from Boca a WC, then set up the tourny so they play each other so one of them gets a pro point and a pro ranking regardless. Worse yet, they take the spot(s) from guys/gals that are out trying to make it on their own - who spend their $ to get there.

You are not paranoid. This has been happening for years. Most people just don't get to the level that it effects them, so it goes unmentioned. And if it effects you, you can't complain because you will carry the USTA scarlett letter. I don't know Madison, but it sounds like she had to get on the train or wear a big red A.

What I highlighted is the biggest complaint I hear about.
