Where have all the angles gone?

Need some help please guys. Playing with and thoroughly enjoying my bab pure control standard strung with cyberflash at 58lbs, I've noticed that the short, heavily top spun angle shot has become difficult to play. As variety and an all court style once defined my game, I had a hit with my prince spectrum 90 and my head liq. met. prestige mp to see if this inability to find the angles was just me. After an hour or so and with my angles regained, I've come to the conclusion that perhaps it is my stick that is inhibiting me. Without too radically altering my bab's playing attributes, can anyone see a solution to allowing me to find my angles again? Or, if I'm that desperate to play this shot is it time for a new stick? Apologies for the long-windedness of my post, all help greatly appreciated!

Hmm..so you think its something to do with Babolat or the string? I've found angles fine with all Babolats...

Haha, thanks for the resounding support guys!! Well, what adjustments do you think I could make to help me find my angles again, if there exists such an adjustment? Perhaps the racket, as it is setup, is too powerful for me?

Get a new racquet....I've never found that relatively stiff and powerful racquets like most Babs work terribly well for sharply angled shots.

You need more spin in control > you need higher tension which is not advised with a stiff arm killer like the Pure Control.Try some thin beam flexible racquets strung above 60.

Maybe, check out that new Polyfibre TCS poly; the TW guys seem to think it's great... comfort, control, power, spin and more spin!

Edit: Unless, they're shareholders in that company or something, lol.

I have never played with the Pure Control, but have got hundreds of hours on my Pure Storm.

Directional control on short heavy top spin shots is not the greatest on these rackets, but there is no reason you shouldn't be able to hit these shots with that racket, or any racket... Especially if you can do it with your others.

What part of the shot are you actually having trouble with? The spin? The placement? Depth?

One thing you might want to try is using a lightweight string. Try some Fibergel Power or FXP 17. String the Fibergel Power tight though because it is soft. Using a lighter string will make your frame more headlight and easier to generate spin. Otherwise it may just be that the weight/balance of the PC doesn't work well for you on those shots. If you like the frame otherwise, just practice those more and you will eventually be able to hit them.

Thanks for all the responses guys, much appreciated.

The spin is easily found I just struggle to find the sharp angle and the ball goes too deep. The reason I haven't gone running to the embrace of a new stick is because I'm unsure as to whether the ability to hit this shot is worth sacrificing the other benefits I've found with PCST: e.g. its solidity, controllable power and ease of serving.

i honestly think it is probably more of an issue of getting your body in position to hit a better angle. If you arent getting your body in good position, and moving your feet well, its pretty hard to hit a good angle, and since you arent having much of an issue with spin, then I dont see how changing racquets will help, unless you are simply more confident with another racquet.
And a lighter wieght string??????............ I highly doubt that minute wieght difference is the reason why you are having trouble hitting angles.

It could be because the power generated by this racket is higher than what you are used to so more spin would be needed or less power so stringing higher would be the way to go. However I agree with rounick that stringing higher than 60 with a poly, even one such as cyberflash which is supposed to be one of the "comfort polys" would not probably be safe.

However I own a pure control plus and can play all the angles but I do string relatively high with poly (63 or above). One thing you might be able to try is to string the mains higher than the crosses or use a softer string in the crosses to help increase comfort. I also have had no history of arm or elbow pain but if you have at any stage of your life I wouldnt try this. You might also try hitting with a lower powered string than the cyberflash.
