Review of HEAD IG Prestige Mid and IG Prestige MP

Difference in length of my Prestige MPs

I noticed a difference of 3 mm in length of my 2 racquets. Is this normal with Head racquets?

I haven't read the entire (700 posts!) thread, but I currently have the MG Prestige MP and love the feel. I have an opportunity to get a gently used IG MP.

Can anyone compare the two? As a side note, I also have a YT Prestige Pro, and don't find it that "hollow or tinny". In fact, feels comparable to the MGPMP.

Thanks.

Anyone with the midplus that switched to the black grommets find a heavier swing weight? Or more solid feel?

I did. Even though I weighed both before switching( and both had the same weight ), the racquet became a bit sluggish and lost some feel. I haven't measured the SW, but I was pretty sure it pumped a few points.

A few people have asked about setups in the IG Mid. I currently have a full bed of ProLine II, and it's PERFECT for it. I use the the 18g to open up the string bed a bit. It feels super soft and comfortable!

i just noticed the other day but has the Prestige Mid always been around 12.3oz with a 310ish swingweight? The LM prestige was 340 stock!

Yippee.... I just picked up a slightly pre-owned IG Prestige MP for under $55. Just needs a new grommet cap and I am planning on installing the black Youtek/MG one. The stock clear one is pretty brittle IMO.

I'm a happy camper.

I bought two IG Prestige Mids while visiting the U.S. and brought them back home to Brazil to replace my 2013 APDs--huge difference in racquets, I know. I was trying to find a racquet that fit my style of play, as a guy who is returned to the game last year after a 20 year layoff.

I was hitting monster groundstrokes with the APD, but my game when I was younger was based on a solid backhand, a strong but inconsistent forehand, and a big serve and volley game. The APD had all of the power I could ever want, but if I wasnt hitting from the baseline I just couldn't find the feel or touch I was looking for. Plus, I hated the fact that it had such a large head (a feeling held over from a bias against oversized racquets in the 80's) and that it was causing me some elbow and shoulder pain.

So now I'm using the IG Prestige mid and my game has shot up tremendously. I will have to take some video to show you guys the before and after, but generating power has never been a problem for me so now I can give full swings on every ground stroke, from almost every position on the court, and not worry that the ball is going to hit the back fence.

Its a racquet that totally requires a full swing, and rewards you for it. I am really in love with it.

I'm playing without a dampner, using Luxillon strung at 51 pounds.

It has such great feel! There is no need for a dampner because there is no vibration. Very few modern racquets have such a great classic feel!

I wish that that the Midplus had the same feel!

I never tried the Mid... mind you I transitioned from a 100+ square inch frame to the MP, more like a 95" frame.

I might find one on the cheap at a big auction site and give it a whirl one day.

Very few mid size frames need a dampener. I've always added a rubber band when playing with a midplus but don't remember ever having one on any mids I've used, be it Head, Yonex, Wilson, etc.

Replaced the crappy clear grommet set with the Youtek Black Set. I like it!

In my opinion, the Prestige MP grommet set installs easier than others I've done. I used tips that were in the "Capping a Radical" blogs on this site.

In short, have some tape around to help secure some key points, like 11 o'clock and 2 o'clock on the frame, so those key grommet holes stay seeded when you work your way around the frame. Use an awl (more of a blunt end if you have it) to help work in some of the holes that are a tad off.

In all, took me 3-4 minutes a side.

Thank you very much. Very helpful. I appreciate your insight.

hi vs, i don't know if you have tried installing a tk57 grommet on the ig prestige, but it seems to me that the holes in the newer prestiges are drilled to be smaller than that of the prestige before and including liquidmetal line. Do you have any suggestions as to how i can install the cap? I took it to my local MRT and in the end there were some corners where there is a bump from the grommet not going all the way into the racket

Yes, the diameter of the holes are drilled smaller. Just get TK238 MG/YT Prestige MP CAP grommets

To help us out... what don't you like about your current setup? Too stiff, too mushy, too powerful? Are you looking for more spin? Give us your "want list".

more spin, and its a little to powerful i may bump up the tension to help with that problem. I want power but controllable power, with good tension maintenance and touch. Which i mostly find all of this in a full poly but i have not tried a full poly in the MP so i don't know how it feels.

Hi, i have very good experience with Signum pro Hyperion (1.18 ) at 46/44 lbs in my prestige MP. Thinner poly works wery well in prestige MP, because it adds spin, power and softer feel in closed pattern. And hyperion holds tension very well even in thinner gauge, it plays good until it breaks.

thanks, this was one of the polys i was looking at trying out, because i love Signum pro and i have heard that hyperion has some power to it.

Tried this racquet some time ago and remember really liking it, and now I couldn't pass up on a great deal on an IG PMP and got it. Came in strung with Wilson NXT and now I've modded it up to my likings. It now weighs 13.22 oz (~375 g), though for me it probably won't be an issue as my 90's weighed more or so the same. Can't wait to go out and hit with it again. Also, very nice cosmetics too.

Anyone still rocking this stone age prestige?

Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk

Absolutely. I'm still playing with my set of 4 IG Prestige MPs.

There are a lot of nice frames out there right now but using what I have requires the least effort. Chasing after frames is exhausting work.

Right here, and all the guys the guys in the ATP a tour with a GXT Prestige MP glossy paint job.

Sorry for a small offtop. I think your name was popping up often in Angell's thread. My favourite racquets are blade 18x20 and ig prestige mp. I customize blade to more HL balance. I love the ig prestige mp for the feel- it is also super easy to use. Very maneuverable. I can generate a lot of spin actually. I love blade for its solidness. I would call it prestige mp on steroids ;p right now Im considering angell racquet. Could you share your opinion and compare any of the "A" models to ig prestige mp?

The real Prestige on steroids is the Graphene Prestige MP.

The Angell model closest to HEAD is the TC97 18x20. In fact in my opinion the TC97 18x20 is more plush and solid feeling than the IG Prestige MP. The Angell's can also be ordered to your desired specs which is a huge plus. If you know what specs you like you can have Angell match them.
