does anyone know the story?
hes been playing dubai every year since 2007? was he scheduled to play this year? do you think he might be ducking federer because hes feeling vulnerable & doesn't want to play him on a fast court?

Ducking Murray and Fedr. As well as Wawa (well that's moot now I suppose)

Wants to boost his confidence by playing Rafa again.

Even though his form is poor right now, Del Po could possibly upset him this week.

Federer is a 7-time Dubai champion who holds a 48-5 record in 13 appearances. He has beaten Nole there in the last 2 meetings. I think Nole likes his chance better against Nadal so he chose to play Alcapulco.

Really? You think Djokovic would dodge opponents?

I think that's more in line with the guy who plays Halle when his competition is playing Queen's

Djokovic doesn't dodge opponents. Don't be stupid. Mexico seems to have better players there this year, than Dubai.

Reason's are pretty simple.

1) has never played Mexico. Seems to have plenty of fans there. Change of scenery, and new challenge to win at a new (to him) tournament.
2) Nadal. It has always been about Nadal (sorry Fed fans). His barometer is Nadal. Especially with Roland Garos coming up.

Ducking Federer, lol? o_O Even before AO Novak said Dubai won't be in his schedule, probably playing here since he didn't get much play this year and the conditions are similar to IW.

I think Del Po's more dangerous so ducking Roger is ridiculous! lol! It's gonna take some effort to get past the Argentinian in the 2nd Round! :p ;)

I seriously starting to think Novak is not playing Dubai because of the place suppression of women and human rights. For sure not a vibe Pepe is addressing for Novak.
Im not bying Novak is trying to avoid players, he never does that. Why should he? He has played way better than anyone else for a couple of years, including Federer himself that won the AO because of the weak era miracle.

Agree. If Djokovic wins any GL thos year, it will automatically be the strongest GL ever [emoji12]

You know this place has gone insane when people start suggesting that a player who doesn't have a bad H2H record with anyone is trying to avoid an opponent.

The 2 million dollar appearance fee. He took a wild card into the tournament because he was offered so much loot. Source: German media.

He wasn't scheduled to play an event before Indian Wells, but maybe he felt like he needed more reps/matches since he went out early in Australia, and only played the one Davis Cup match.

And then Donskoy happened

If a person were perfect, they wouldn't need to play the matches! People ready to drop Nole out of the top 10 due to loss in AO and anointed Federer the #1 ranking before the month was out! What a bunch of dreamers! If he can't get past this kid on his favorite court, how's Fed supposed to sustain his AO excellence all season? Idiotic! :p ;)

He too a wildcard so it was a last second decision to play the tourney, probably because he crashed out so early at the Aussie. Going into the year im sure he thought he would make a deep run at Melbourne then rest up for IW and Miami, wants more reps im sure now.

Plus he doesn't have to travel very far after Acapulco to get to IW.

Fed didn't like his chances against Murray after Andy crushed GGL 6–2, 6–0, so he noped out of Dubai to avoid a crushing defeat :D

Murray never won a title in Dubai, and the last time they met there in 2012 Federer straight set him.

Federer's loss today only means that he's human like the rest of us, and being 35 is not easy on the body.

So Federer is not allow to lose despites have an excellent career results at Dubai?

Anyway, the loss means Nole made a mistake for withdrawing Dubai which is a more prestigious ATP500 than Alcapulco.
not for long!

Acapulco is looking to become a major 500 and they are more than half way there...

You are probably the most unbiased person on these forums. Seriously respecting you, friend. :)

Or are you a closet Nole fan? :p

But when Federer wins, he's the "undisputed" GOAT and a deity, age doesn't matter, and nobody will ever come close to him, right?

I know you didn't say any of those things. I'm just trying to point out any possible irony that you or any of you fed fans ever come up with.

Stupid suggestions like yours (that Novak is dodging Fed) deserve stupid retorts

Not all Fed fans are the same. For me, I don't rewards Federer 2017 AO wins anymore than his 2004 AO just he's 35 years old. OTOH, other fan base wants to treat his recent loss is equally bad as when he was in his prime at 25.

I'm just preparing for the worst ahead of time.

True, not all Fed fans are the same; equally so for Nole fans and Rafa fans and everyone in between. As for you, I respect you and your opinion.

But according to the post below, Nole made an excuse not to play Dubai citing injury, and then chose to play Acapulco.

Whether it was because of never playing there or avoiding Dubai players or because of the eye infection that occurred last year, it's still a b1tch move that he scheduled to play in Dubai to begin with, withdraw due to a shoulder injury via https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/index.php?threads/djokovic-is-injured-and-wont-play-dubai.582715/ and play Acalpulco instead.

Probably felt the shoulder injury was getting better and decided to play somewhere else instead when Dubai blew out their appearance fee budget thanks to Fed's demands
