Pro Staff 85...kidding. If you can give us some more information about yourself we could better help you. How long you have been playing. What kind of tennis do you like to play? Do you stay baseline , do you like to volley. One or two handed back hand? The more you can help us the more we can help you.

Yes, a bit. Dont be lazy, tell us more about you. Here's a small list:

Age, Height
What grip - Eastern, Semi-western or Western FH/BH
Play style - Baseliner, All-court, Serve and Volley - I know you said you havent played for long so you may not have found your playing style yet

There are other factors that also make a difference like how dedicated you are, how many times you play per week, do you take lessons etc.

I'm 16, 5'3. I'm wanting to buy my first racquet (currently using the one my coach has lent me)so i dunno what grip is best (dunno if u can explain??), i know i need 3/8''. Not to sure of my playing style yet but im mostly a baseline player. At the moment i play about 3-4 times a week (depending how much college work i have to do), which includes my 2 lessons a week.

I suggest demo'ing a Prince O3 Blue or Red. They have a really nice sweetspot for lower levels and plenty of power. Until you get good at hitting the ball in the right place, it's great having some forgiveness in the racket.

Don't waste your time with this stuff. Just pick one that feels good in your hand, agrees with your wallet & go play.

It doesn't matter what you use at this stage.

I started off with a Volkl Catapult V1 MP... That's a good beginner's frame. Very forgiving, spin-friendly and not super-powerful.

Correct. I'm a former Teaching Pro and a HS Coach. Don't be swayed by all the hype and spend way too much for a fancy racket.

In fact, you're just the kind of player I say should go to the Used Sporting Goods store ... spend $50 or less on a frame between 95 and 110 square inches and go have fun. (If six weeks -- or six months -- from now you find yourself thinking you might have made a mistake ... at least you haven't made a $200 mistake.)

No Used Sports store in your area? Go to the bottome of this TW Liquidation link and see some very good deals.

Welcome to Tennis! And welcome to TT (this forum).

Welcome to the great game!!!

I've coached high school kids and a couple of racquets they really like, which are also more affordable, are the Head LM 8 and the Prince Diablo XP. A couple of others that are also reasonable are the Volkl Tour 6 and the Head LM 4, oh and the Dunlop 300g, too.

Since you're putting your basic skills together, your hardware won't affect your game too much yet, but your strings will significantly affect how your racquet feels. If it seems too hard or harsh, consider stringing at looser tension, but if it's too rubbery or spongey, you can try tighter tension. Synthetic gut or multifiber string in the inexpensive range will service you fine.
