I have tried them all. Well, not really, but a lot. I sweat a LOT, live in a very humid city and it has caused problems in my game in the past, I even lost my forehand for a couple of months due to moist, old overgrips. I played quite some time with Tournagrip blue, and its okay when new, but for me, it doesnt really last. Once it starts falling appart, its gone. Then I switched to Wilson pro overgrip white, which I thought had no competition at all, I used it for a long time, even though I did change it regularly, toweled the handle and hands every changeover, etc. I bought the 30 packs for a number of years. In between, I tried the Yonex Super Grap, which, to me is very similar to the Wilson, but I still give the edge to Wilson.
Then I bought a 3-pack of Tourna Mega Tac White...... it IS the tackiest of them all, you feel it quite secure in your hand, it sticks, you can grip loosely and freely, withouth the handle twisting. What a feeling to be able to swing like this!!!
I ran out of them last week, so, while Im waiting for my 30-pack, I had to buy one Wilson Pro from a proshop and theres no comparison. Wilson is nowhere as tacky, and doesnt last as long at all. I had a tournament on Sunday, then again on Tuesday, and just on the 2nd day I had to change it. They had some Dunlop Gecko overgrips at their proshop, so I had to buy one. The same, kinda sticky, but not really, felt really uncomfortable after a while (it was a very humid day), felt I had to grip tighter and my game suffered. I went to play with a friend yesterday and the same, it just didnt feel secure, and felt it twisting when I missed the center of the stringbed.
I had a 2nd racquet with a much older, dirtier Tourna Megatac, so I picked it up, you know, to have a feel. Immediately I noticed how much more stickier it was, even when it was worn out, much more than the almost new Dunlop. It is worlds of difference, and I decided to play with the old Tourna stick instead. Bye bye, forever, Dunlop Gecko, thanks but no thanks. Oh, and you too, Wilson pro, you're ok, you're just no Tourna Megatac, not even close.
For those of you who like tacky OG's, I dare you to find a better option out there than Tourna Mega Tac. And I always go for the white, read on some thread that the white doesnt have any dyes, thus its the better of them, so thats all I use (might not be true, but I'm sure psychologically I'd notice a difference).
Cheers!
