A Quick Review Of Dunlop Viper Dry and Gecko Tac Overgrips

I started back into tennis in 2003 as a Tournagrip user for a year or two. Then I discovered Yonex Supergrap white and have been using that ever since.

I strayed a few months ago and picked up a package of the Dunlop Gecko Tac also in white. The cut away sample felt nice and tacky. I played with it for 1 set during the steamy summer months and as soon as this grip got wet, I knew it was not for me. Way too slippery for my needs.

So I met the arrival of Viper Dry with some skepticism. It felt great on the racket handle. I worried it might be TOO tacky at first. This is a perforated grip which feels a little bit different. The tackiness is pretty good but I have to wonder how this grip would perform in the steamy summer months. The 2 nights I played with it, the temps were near 80. It seems like it might suffer from the Gecko Tac slipperiness problem but I won't be able to test that for a long time, so I can only guess.

Bottom line: I'm still a Yonex Supergrap white user but the Viper Dry is pretty darn good too.

Have you ever tried the reverse side of the white Supergrap? It's pretty good.

I discovered it accidentally when I was playing a match and didn't have a spare overgrip on me when I needed it. So I took off the old one, reversed it, and put it back on.

It is definitely not as tacky as the front side but is surprisingly slip-resistant. It has decent feel and much easier on the skin.

I now use both the front and the back sides.

80 degrees is steamy and hot now? Man up bro. Try playing tennis in 38 degrees Celsius. Thats around what? 100 degrees. The best grip for me is Yonex Supergrap because i love the squishyness of it and if i sweat like a pig ill wrap a tournagrip over it. I usually sweat on my arm so i have a wristband.

80 degrees is fall weather here bro, not summer.

I'm normally frugal, but I am super picky about my overgrips so I probably will pass on trying this. Hopefully a few other people read this and it helps them extend their dollars. Good stuff, thanks!
