Daniel Nestor sub 10 lbs

I strung a few frames for Nestor at the Winston a Salem a Open at 11 lbs! One of the best dubs players of all times and he strung at 11 lbs!!! Gut and Big Banger at these tensions is a dream. Serves are easier and returns are basically volleys/half volleys. I asked him about/why so ultra low....he said because with Luxilon Alu Power you have the best playing string of all time.....for an hour! He said after an hour Alu Power is garbage! Pros can switch rackets every hour. And get compensated for it. Doubles, you benefit from the added power, spin, and string life due to lower tension and literally half volleying returns.

Thats crazy. You could just string them by hand.

I'd love to have a hit with one strung that low.

How in the world is that possible?!

The lowest I've heard of is a friend who strings his at 25lb - but it was Kevlar. I think there's an old thread that talks about low string tension.

With gradual lowering of tension, I think one can get used to a quite low tension that sounded impossible to use at first.

Low 40s is certainly achievable. Hmm, but not sure to 11lb, though. Nestor can, but probably not most people.

For a doubles specialist, that would be a lot easier to adjust to, I think, because the easy putaway power on volleys with minimal movement would compensate for any lost control in groundstrokes. IDK how he serves, though...

What?! No way... That's literally hand pull tension. I've tried some low tensions before (10kg full poly) but using gut at that tension would be wild. I'd love to try that just for laughs. Singles would be REALLY hard I bet.

I am playing a poly / syn gut hybrid at 32/36 right now and I can tell you that I know I get more feel, comfort, and spin at this tension than at 48/52. Further I don’t think I am getting that much - if any - extra power or loss of control (perhaps just the opposite).

Lower tensions are, however, definitely favorable to your arm and increasing your sweet spot. Try it.

How can you compare 32/36 with 11lbs lol

What I would like to know is what machine has a setting that low? I was thinking 11Kg, but OP says he strung it up at 11#.

According to the proportional stringing sheets, outside strings can be as low as 5 kg.

I strung Solinco Tour Rev 18 at 30#. It felt good, but extremely quiet when you hit the ball. That's what I'll go back to when I start playing again.
