The Fischer Faction!

I had two racquets with the Nicole Dürr design - those were the most aesthetically pleasing in my opinion. Everything afterwards was "solid" but not outstanding. But it really is the same with all the other racquet companies. Head's designs in the late 80ies (Prestige, Elite, Elektra Pro especially) with their sparkling colors were just as good, but look at them now... The only company trying to really install some system into their racquet paint jobs is Wilson at this point, thanks to @PeterFig! I personally like the cosmetics across the entire current Wilson line-up, can't say that about any other brand out there.
yeah i love love love those nicole Durr airbrush crossfades. cool shades too... greys fade to lavenders, deep tourmaline etc. real penache

What Fischer racquet would you like to see Pacific release that is not currently available?
I'd like to see this frame resurrected: Pro Tour FT

FPTFT-big.jpg

On paper, it has all the things I lean toward: 98 sq in, 21mm straight beam, extended length, 16x20. I did not like the red/black version of this frame when it first came out in 2001, but the yellow/black one supposedly an improvement. I would like it to be slightly lighter, only to allow me to customize it to my taste. 315g instead of 320g.

Anyone have any string recommendations for the Fischer classic pro revolution 98? I typically play with a poly multi hybrid but it sounds like ceramic racquets are pretty string sensitive.

I'm a gut/poly person, and that is what I put in my Pro Rev 98s, but I think these will respond well to a full bed of gut, or a decent multi if gut is too expensive. Putting full poly will really deaden/counteract the feel of the frame IMO.

If you have to use poly/multi, maybe try it the other way around (e.g. multi mains, poly crosses).

Thanks for the reply! I ended up going with Technifibre Blackcode 17 in the mains and gamma TNT 16 in the crosses. It feels great. Exactly what I needed to do.

I had multis on my PC 98 racquets for years, tried Isospeed Cream mains and Isospeed Professional Classic crosses (both @52) and like it even better: Soft, great feel, tamed power, and lots of control.

Oh, not that angry fisherman with his stick... My Fischer sticks, of course:

@Alex78 do you have a stockpile of grommets for all those racquets...?

I was considering getting some Fischer racquets but without spare grommets, it might be a bad idea... just more racquets that I won't be able to use long-term... (I have a Yonex Super RD Tour 90 and 95 and can't find grommets so now might have to try different improvisations...)

Would you be able to give me your thoughts on the M Comp 95 and the Pro Extreme FT... if you've tried that one? Thanks

I have spare grommets from Pacific - they are an exact fit:
XFeel Pro 95 - M Comp 95
XFeel Tour 100 - Magnetic / Black Granite Tour
X Tour 97 - Vacuum Classic 98 'Retro'
- I've never tried the Pro Extreme FT, but the M Comp 95 is a very, very nice stick. I have the 'UL' version (295g unstrung) and added some lead at 2 and 10 and on the handle. It allows me to swing really fast, and the precision I can obtain with it is top-notch. It's also relatively wide in the hoop, not much difference there with regard to the Tour, which is 100squin.

Thanks for that @Alex78 ... that helps... will look up those grommets on TW...

With regard to head sizes... I don't really pay much attention as I have found that what is printed is not what is factual in many cases... and the differences are not that great... fitness, footwork and keeping an eye on the ball are much more important... but it's good to know that the hoop is relatively wide...

You're not helping my racquetoholism with all the wonderful photos of your racquets on the Post Pictures of your racquets thread... lol :D

@McLovin ... I ended up getting the Fischer Vacuum Pro 95, Vacuum Comp 95 and the VT Pro 98 (all 330g)...

Very exciting and can't wait for them to arrive so I can sample some of that unique Fischer feel... They will be my first Fischers... hope I love'em...

Nice! I've never hit with the Vacuum Pro or Comp, but the VT Pro 98 is a dream. I picked up some of the Pro Classic 98 Retros and am now waiting on some Pro No 1 FTs, which are extended. Love love love the Retros for doubles. They are so maneuverable at the net, and solid on the return.

I snagged the Pro No 1s to experiment with an extended frame in singles. I used the Black Granite Pro No 1s for a couple years, but am finding as I get older (49 now) I need a little more help from the frame during extended ralleys. Hoping the extra 3/8" adds that.

Admittedly I used to frown upon people using different frames for singles and doubles, but am now going to experiment for a bit with this approach. I serve & volley of both serves in doubles, and look to come in off my first chance when returning, but hug the baseline in singles, so I guess it makes sense I'd want something quick & maneuverable at the net for dubs, but something with slightly more 'controllable power' in singles.

What you say makes complete sense with respect to singles and doubles... with the FT's I was worried that I might find them hard to play with, having never used an extended length racquet before... otherwise they look very enticing... Which FT's did you choose?

Yeah, I used extended length frames for almost 10 years (Yonex RD Power 10 Long, Hyper Pro Staff 6.1 +, Fischer Pro Tour FT, Pure Control + 'Swirly'), then manufacturers started making only the light, powerful frames extended and I returned to regular length frames. But, I've always wanted to go back to them. I went with these:

I have a Pro No1 with the old squarish Fischer butt cap system. Now I have the opportunity to have it replaced (for free) by a new more rectangle system by Fischer/Pacific. Should I go for that?

For the purposes of this discussion, I'm calling the Fischer pallets from late 1990s -> 2005 (rounded 2-piece w/ separate butt cap) 'Gen 1', the 2005 -> Pacific 'BX2' pallets (2-piece, integrated butt cap) 'Gen 2', and the Pacific PGS system 'Gen 3'.

Here is what you need to be aware of with the different pallet systems:
  • With the 'Gen 1' Fischer pallets, while the length of the frame measures 27", the actual 'usable' length is ~ 26 7/8". This is because the butt cap has a bulbous end that sticks out approx 1/8", and that tip of the butt cap is part of the 27" measurement. But the grip ends ~ 26 7/8":
FMSR-big.jpg
  • So when you swap out the pallet with the 'Gen 2' Fischer/Pacific pallet, the actual length of the frame now becomes 26 7/8" because the holes in the graphite hairpin are lined up for the bulbous butt cap, and the Gen 2 pallets have an 'abrupt' end (as do the majority of other manufacturer's grips), losing that 1/8":
0230220131180000_2.jpg
  • The new 'Gen 3' system of pallets will fit over the graphite, however, there is no 'integrated' way of actually attaching it (the pallet is 3-pieces: a 1" neck, a 6" tube, and a butt cap). The BXT hairpins contain a ridged portion that, when the tube slips over it, locks it in, preventing it from slipping (the pallets are replaceable, but its destructive to the current pallet). But...
  • You can staple each piece (neck, tube, butt cap) into place separately, and since there is no 'ridged' area on the Gen 1 & Gen 2 graphite, you can staple the neck anywhere you want, meaning you can offset it 1/8" from the top, making up for the missing 1/8" form the original pallet. Now, there is 1/8" overhang at the bottom, and you can try to fill it in w/ a spacer (e.g., balsa wood), but in all honesty, I haven't noticed the overhang at all.
One last tidbit: The Gen 1 & Gen 2 pallets weigh approximately the same. The Gen 3 pallets, however, weigh ~ 14g lighter, so you'll have to offset that w/ some lead under the grip.

Hope this helps. And yes, I know this because I've done it recently w/ my Pro Classic Retros and my Pro No 1 FTs.

Thanks @McLovin you gave me all the info I needed. I think I just ask for a refund and buy the M Pro No1 98 (295 gram) which has a more common grip-shape.

The 4 'Pacific X Force Pros' on the bottom left are actually Pro Stock frames made for Andre Golubev, and are actually Fischer Pro Classic 98 +2.5mms:

The answer to your question @McLovin is, unfortunately, a personal one...

I was getting all these different racquets... love them all for different reasons... however just kept looking for more... then recently acquired 4 Fischer racquets (as I have previously mentioned - so apologies for any repetition), and just felt like my cup was full... Haven't yet received them... don't know how they play yet... but if they are good, I just don't feel like I need any more...

Everyone's cup is different and of different size...when it gets full you just know it... until then it feels like something is not right...

All the Fischer racquets have arrived... VT98, Vacuum Pro 95, Vacuum Comp 95 and the M Comp 95.

Will be trying to hit the courts at the first opportunity... They all feel great on swings in the back garden... but you never know until you hit with them on court

Hi Fischer Faction...

Would @Alex78 or @McLovin or anyone else in the know be able to tell me what the RA and SW are for the following Fischer racquets:

Vacuum Pro 95 (330g)
Vacuum Comp 95 (330g)
Vacuum Pro 98 (330g - Gold, Red, Silver, and Black at Tip) - it has the Power Feel System and a Tapered Beam 20mm-23mm-25mm (Throat to Tip)

Thanks :)

No @McLovin ... I'm talking about the one that looks like this

https://goo.gl/images/n2jw3S

If it hasn't worked (no image)... it's the one that has the cross weave (gold background) just above grip, metallic deep red where the throat meets the hoop and along the entire outside of hoop, but deep red transitioning to metallic gold, then silver, then black on the inside of the hoop.

Need some advice.
Returning to tennis after a long (23 year) break. Formerly played with a vaccum pro 90. I see that Pacific is still producing some Fischer models, but can't find a 90. Would anyone be able to steer me towards a good substitute? Looking at the force pro, or is finding an old used vac pro a better option? I play primarily serve and volley and am currently rated a 4.0 if that matters. Thanks for any help.

According to a local RDC mine were:
Vac Comp 95: swingweight 328, flex 65
Vac Pro 95: swingweight 325, flex 65
Vac Pro 98: swingweight 322, flex 64

Pacific briefly re-relased the Vacuum Pro 90 a few years back, but there didn't seem to be much demand for it so they discontinued it. Essentially, you have 2 options:
  1. Look at the X Tour 97, which is essentially the Pro Classic 98, or,
  2. Contact @michael valek and get a few Vacuum Pro 90s...
A few of us on these boards have taken advantage of his 'contacts' and are much happier as a result (see my photo halfway up the page...10 of those came form him). I can vouch for him & the frame's authenticity.

Add me to the Michael Valek fan club, top notch.
Before I pull the trigger on some Pacific pro 90s, does anyone here use these sticks? Currently use volkl pb 10 mid, wondering how they compare, been a long time since my vac pro days and wonder if the Pacific has a different feel? Also advice on string setups, usually go with a gut poly hybrid. Lastly, can anyone compare the 90 and 95? Thanks for all the help.
