Nope I'll agree, Perez, Kessler, Crawford all make some tight calls, its part of winning, hoe many other sports let the players make calls? I know the answer, none! Get over you high and moral self.

have you looked at the results and records? i would not call that a stack. you should take a look because its impressive and im not sure many have taken the time to do this.In other words, it was the typical suspicious Ty Tucker lineup.

In Wolf's first year, he was 14-4 at #2 singles in dual matches, and 2-2 at #3 singles. Did not play #1.
That year, DiFeo was 8-1 at #2 and 17-2 at #3. Did not play #1.
At most, DiFeo played 4 matches at #2 while Wolf was #3, and Wolf played 18 matches at #2 while DiFeo was #3. This is a pretty clear trend, not "Not really. Sometimes."

They are part of it, essentially. The relatively new six-court indoor facility (well, I guess not that new, early 2000s) is very close to the new practice facility. When I was at NU in the 1990s, the tennis team used three indoor courts with a bubble that were located up by the football stadium, or would pay to use a private indoor facility in a neighboring suburb or Chicago The new indoor facility was part of a renovation expansion of recreation and fitness facility that sits right on Lake Michigan and is within very short walking distance to the new practice facility. NU has a pretty nice 15-court outdoor facility about 5 minute walk from the lakefront indoor facility. But, it's not used for matches a lot given the weather - simply not a lot of days during dual meet season that have the combination of temp, lack of rain, lack of wind that you'd want for an outdoor match.

Will be interesting to see how many matches Wolf is allowed to miss. Wolf is accepted into Dallas Challenger which runs 2/4-2/10. OSU plays Arizona State 2/8 and Georgia 2/10. You'd think OSU would want Wolf there for the Georgia match since they lost to UGA last year, and this year's match is at OSU. Wolf is playing great, but maybe OSU figures the odds of him making another Challenger final are low. Dallas is a higher $ Challenger than Columbus. Several top 100 are in the initial direct acceptance-Ryan Harrison, infamous Tomic of Australia, and Reilly Opelka. Chris Eubanks, former of GA Tech and top 200 is also playing. With those potential opponents, Wolf will probably be back in Columbus in time to play weekend matches....
I thought it was interesting that OSU put out a team poster on twitter with only 6 guys-all of them US players. Don't most teams put out posters with all players or at least 8? I assume German Seibert who some last year will play again as well as freshman Trotter from Japan.
Anyway glad to see Wolf do well. Have only seen him once live at 2017 NCAA teams in Athens, and he was one of my favorites to watch. Try to catch him play some on livestream.
PS On another note, it is interesting to see pros signing up to play Challengers-Tomic at Cleveland and Dallas, Donald Young at Cleveland, Jack Sock at Newport Beach. Of course their appearances are all subject to change. Maybe Challengers will get more press especially with Tomic playing (if he comes)!
How can you see who is in challengers so far ahead? I’ve only seen it posted on the draw the day before?
It looks to me like the poster are the seniors and juniors. Lots of Americans on Ohio State team. Kudos to Ty Tucker. #2 team with almost all Americans with appropriate ages.

Mike Cation usually posts Challenger initial acceptance list on twitter for US Challengers-see his Jan 14 tweet for Dallas. Cleveland Challenger initial list posted Jan 9 @CLEChallenger. Cation is in Australia so I dont know if he will be updating on Challengers until he returns. The cutoff for most of these Challengers' direct entry is 300 or lower but current college players could be on alternate list (Roy Smith of Baylor and Gojo of Wake are high alternates for Dallas) or get in with WC; with dual season in swing, we probably wont see many current college players on lists until summer. Wolf now at 290 could make more direct entries, but I assume he will be busy with team matches after Dallas. Anybody can access future draws, acceptance lists at https://www.itftennis.com/procircuit/tournaments/men's-calendar.aspx. Wish the Challenger lists were open to public as the host sites share little information. These lists dont show who gets the WCs.
Does anyone know the story on Borna Gojo? Is he returning to Wake? He is on roster, but he didnt play vs Arizona State on the weekend and he is registered alternate for Dallas Challenger.

I think there is a good chance he plays for Wake this year, but my guess is there are probably a few things that need to get cleared through the NCAA first.

This will be a huge test for the Buckeyes, IMHO, JJ Wolf will be the biggest factor for any OSU hope to succeed,
Wolf dropped his 3rd round match in Cleveland Challenger on Wednesday.

Doubles was never really in doubt. Tough singles matches, Stanford hung in there in most of the first sets, but second sets were OSU all the way. Stanford needs to work on its depth, top players for Stanford are exceptional, bottom of the lineup really let them down.

Right if he is so good then why does OSU always choke in the NCAA tournament when it matters the most ? All these great dual matches are just window dressings. Winning the NCAA tournament is where its at with college tennis. That is where your true ability as coach shines thru. Look at Stanford women's team. They don't have the best team as far as talent level goes but then they always find a way to win and be at their best when NCAA tourney time comes in May.

I went to a tennis camp with Kobelt when I was in high school and he was in 8th, maybe 9th grade. At that point in time I would not have guessed that he would ever make a top 10 lineup. He's clearly improved dramatically, even since he first enrolled at OSU.

No worries. Sameer will come around. It's very tough juggling classes and tennis career. As you get to senior year, it only gets harder. But having said that, he will come around and start dominating at that position. He was beating everyone at #2, it's only matter of time. When that happens, Cardinal will be unbeatable

His older brother Peter, Kevin Metka, and Alex are all players that have recently well exceeded expectations and are all Columbus kids
Kevin was a nobody nationally and his senior year in high school won Ohio D1 state singles, essentially didnt play on the team for two years, and then got to the finals of the NCAA doubles
Peter was a nationally good but not superstar level player that ended up ranked #1 in the ITA Standings
Alex was a Toledo or Akron level player out of high school and is now playing in the roster on a solid #2 or #1 team and beating a #29 ranked player
Ty will make literally anybody that goes there a 10 times better player

I don't even think Alex was a Toledo/Akron level player coming out of high school. Never ranked above 450 (2 stars) on TennisRecruiting before his senior year.

There were 18 Blue Chip recruits. Alex has beaten two guys in the top 5 (Kumar/Kessler) and is arguably better right now than seven others (Boyd/Genender/Lin/Rutledge/Mataes/Kodali/Hansen)

Alex is playing the best tennis I have seen the whole time he has been there. Serve and backhand are ten times better then two years ago, and he is finally hitting with more consistency instead of trying to just blast people off the court. He is a solid player right now for the Buckeyes. And yes, Ty has made many players much better then they were coming out of high school, he just knows how to get them motivated for team play!

Ty does really well with late bloomers, such as Kevin Metka and Alex Kobelt, he seems to identify them well or just gets the best Ohio players and some work out and some don't (sorry Joey Thomas, gl at LSU). I am impressed seeing Alex especially after high school when he got a lot of people saying he wasnt any good because they were expecting the second coming of Peter Kobelt. Good for Alex.
I'm calling that he is going to be number 1 in college tennis by his junior year and winning futures by the end of his freshman year.
