Federer would never say such thing about Zverev.
Thiem was putting a hell of figth against Nadal this US Open. You have a simplistic Nadalovic hater mind: "If X player stops Nadalovic at Slams and wins the whole trophy, he is not a weak player. If he loses, he is a weak player". There is no grey in your mind, everything is white or black. For you, it would be the same if Nadal had destroyed Thiem 6-1, 6-0, 6-1. It doesn't matter that Thiem almost defeated Nadal in a 5 sets match. This is a typical hater mentality. Does it mean that Federer was a weak player at the AO 2009 final because he lost to Nadal in 5 sets? You also criticize Thiem for not beating Nadal at Roland Garros. How many times dos Federer beat Nadal at Roland Garros?

WowSimon,
No-one's talking about Nadal winning a Grand Slam, or being one of the greatest players ever.
You're right, it isn't even a rivalry, because Federer is so clearly superior to Nadal, owning 3 of the last 4 GS. Owned. And if Nadal gets to the Wimby finals, Federer will clean his clock. Remember, Federer also had a losing record to Hewitt, and we all know how that ended up.
Nadal won't win any GS outside of clay as long as Federer plays. And his game is so physically demanding and injury-prone that he'll probably have to retire by the time he's 24 or 25 -- Federer's current age -- due to burnout.

Yeah, and a servebot like Anderson made the final in this "slow" court. At the USO 2003, even a clay specialist like Ferrero made the final.
They may well be but that doesn't entail that the younger gen doesn't suck more than previous next gen's. Also, beating Sampras at 2002 ain't that impressiveIf Sampras was surpassed by his Next Gen, while Nadal and Djokovic are not surpassed by their Next Gen, it has an easy explanation. Nadal and Djokovic have more longevity, and are much better in their 30s than Sampras in his 30s. I am sorry but 2018 Nadal or Djokovic would have destroyed 2002 Sampras at Wimbledon.

*3 USO.
Or do you think Djokovic will give Nadal this USO?
It's Djokodal-gen's job to stop Hewitt/Safin/Roddick/Federer/etc., not the other way around, and it worked out mostly except they can only slow Federer. Dimitrov-gen's job is to stop Djokodal-gen; they failed miserably.
Federer-gen DID stop Samprass/Agassi/etc. Sampras-gen wasn't allowed to achieve much once Federer-gen matured.
Instead of bashing the younger guys why you don't use that instead to appreciate how good Federer, Nadal and company actually were/are?
I am doing both; praising Fedalovicray AND criticizing all players 28yrs old and younger. 28yo!
You mean to tell me we should all overlook the fact that all 28yo and younger pros are under-performing? You don't see that tennis is looking to be very dire once Fedalovicray retires? The 28yo and younger should be ruling tennis now and pushing them out by winning, not by waiting them out.
There will be a new normal and life will go on and people will realize that those guys were too good to just be "pushed out" similar to the way how no one is pushing out Ronaldo and Messi. Or no one has pushed out Tom Brady and Drew Brees, and Peyton Manning would have probably been there too if not for nerve damage.
In the future people will look back at it similar to the 70s heavyweight boxing scene with the multiple legends all at the same exact overlapping time period.
You're naturally going to see a lot of wrong predictions, brutally so even, in threads this old. Federer's era of dominance being over is just as funny as the quote that revived this thread when you consider the date it was written. And @2011 also has a very good point about USO court speed. The USO is slowed down so much that it's obvious to the naked eye how much difference there is, and even Wimbledon is slower now than it was in the early-mid 2000's.
3 years is not that much. 5+ years should be the difference.Thiem's best surface is clay, Fed's WORST surface is clay. You know what, just remove all other chatter. Answer me this:
Out of thousands upon thousands of tennis pros since Djokovic turned pro, how many that is 3yr+ YOUNGER than Djokovic made slam finals? Just 1, Thiem at RG18. I'm NOT even asking for winners, just finalists! You STILL thinks these young guns are strong?

Because it's impossible.Federer would never say such thing about Zverev.
Talk about a prediction that looks off by 10 years or so.
