Well done Djoker, phenomenal comeback winning three slams in a row - emulating Fedals' comeback achievements but went one better by going back-to-back-to-back. To Djoker's fans - I'm happy for you all. I know what it is like to have your man out in the wilderness for a couple of years and then how sweet it is to return to the top. He is now the AO king, he has now moved past Pete in the slam count to 3rd overall and doesn't look like slowing down.

From a Rafa's fan perspective, he just didn't turn up at Rod Laver Arena last night. That is not taking anything away from Djoker, the way he was playing he was always going to be the winner but Rafa just wasn't there, being that he was injury free, there was no reason to go from the competitiveness of the Wimby semi-final to what we saw last night in the span of a few months. Anyway hopefully he gets his head screwed back on because the pressure will be on from Djoker at RG now and Rafa needs to bounce back.

From an overall perspective, Djoker needed that to stay in the slam race if he has any aspirations for 20 at all and the same can now be said for Rafa at RG, if he doesn't move to 18 this year in Paris, it is hard to see him stopping Djokovic in this kind of form anywhere else.

I think maybe it was one of those RG 2008 type days when one player is on fire and the other guy just isn't able to fight back. It's bound to happen, Nadal and Djokovic have had so many wars it was due for an anti climax. I do also think his new more aggressive approach simply didn't work vs Djokovic. We've see how he can neutralise Fed and to play attacking tennis against him when he's on form you have to be perfect. I think Nadal will have to tinker with the balance of his game but the positive is he is without injury and able to compete

RG will be very interesting and the overall slam race as well. This year Novak could technically get to 18 slams but I don't think he will. Nadal could get to 20 but I don't think he will. 18 to Nadal and 16 or 17 to Djokovic looks possible though... who knows? We shall see!

Federer is playing the French Open this year. And I think he's going to take this one very seriously considering what's on the line. The draws will be interesting.

Novak is mediocre champion and got lucky today but he will be easy win at the French open. Vamos RAFA

True - good point. Where do you think it fits in the pecking order on clay? I would have it:

Rafa
Djoker
Thiem
Federer

People don't understand that If Djokodal stopped chasing Federer, the sport would have become boring..
Djokodal train is moving at its final round, and maybe only one among those two can catch Fed... Age is not on their side.
It's like a video game now, and it is interesting.
Whoever wins, we can congratulate them..
If both reaches Fed Slam count, it would be amazing too.
But let's enjoy the game :)

Nadal fought hard to win this AO, and I expect he'll be winning this RG. Novak and Nadal are going to turn this slam race incredibly interesting if their form keeps up for just a little while longer.

Good post from a good representative of Nadal's fanbase.

But Fed at #4? Why? He hasn't played a clay tournament since 2016 and hasn't reached an RG SF since 2012. I don't think Fed, today, would be in the top 4 prospects for Wimbledon, much less for RG.

I am a huge Fed fan. He’s the GOAT and always will be to me.

But man - it’s hard to see Fed doing anything at all at RG at 37.

By Wimby he’s essentially 38.

I think he takes them all seriously. Certainly he took this tournament seriously. He looked really good for a while.

...But at this point I really think there are no new things to discover to up his game.

He’s surely left no stone unturned.

And He had an AMAZING last hurrah 2017-18. More than any Fed fan could hope for.

But I think he will ride into the sunset now - with the smallest hope for a last hurrah at Wimbledon.

You make a good point. Fed is much more susceptible to the rest of the field than the other three on clay. I was just pointing out that I thought he was a clear fourth of the four mentioned. There will be quite a bit of danger for him from the fourth round onwards simply because of his age and the grinding nature of clay-court tennis.

Could be some surprises. Wouldn't be surprised if we see some upsets. Even Djokovic isn't safe from an upset on clay. Nadal should make the final if he's healthy. Federer could go out in the first week or he could go deep.

Murray and his counterpunching style, if he was still in form, might have the best chance to beat the new and improved Novak with his juiced up serve and slightly more aggressive game.

Shame we are unlikely to see the 2 contest a slam final again.
