Rubber Band Dampener Club

This is the very first (I hope) Rubber band club; if you use a rubber band for a dampener, join in! If you're curious, go ahead and buy yourself a bag of #64 rubberbands - they're cheap! if you love 'em, i told ya so; if you don't... well, start yourself a rubberband ball i guess.

OK, I am sort of leaning dampless as of late, but back in the old days boy did I dampen those vibrations with some tremendous rubberbands, big time. Here is my proof, a photograph with a purple one hehe:

I like to use rubber bands because they don't fall off and they work as well, if not better, than most dampeners. I would think that Agassi could afford a dampener but he used rubber bands.

As does Roddick

and count me in been using rubber bands for a year or 2 now

The rubberband actually works very, very good. Plus, they won't pop out and you can get a big bag for about the same price of one dampener. You should give them a try.

It's Tecnifibre Redcode 16ga. I strung it at 45/50 and I'm really enjoying it. I prefer to stay with low tensions so when I read that polys should be at 5-10% lower than normal for you then I fell into the 40s!

I'm a photography hobbyist when I'm not playing tennis.

try it! I honestly used to use regular dampeners from the cheap to the expensive, and IMHO, they don't compare to a regular rubber band!

How can you guys possibly like dampeners on your racquet. That totally eliminates the feel you get from ANY kind of string.

I have been dampless ever since I started playing and will continue to be.

I only use it for certain racquets, primarily ones that will kill my arm & elbow if i didn't do so otherwise.

I use them because they're free.

ive been using rubber bands for almost a year now. i went with out a dampener for a day and it felt different, i just didnt like it. it wasnt so much the noise. actually, i felt that my racquet was even more powerful with out a rubber band, but it could be in my head.

to Nuke: i almost used duct tape for head tape but i was already at sports authority so i just picked up some head tape.

rubber bands=best dampening system

not alot of wieght, not too much dampening (if tied looser)

put me down, sir

I still find feel in my racquets... and you might as well ask how agassi did some of his most brilliant drop shots using a rubber band.

i tie the rubber band tight and the mains seem to be pinching

currently using a longg wilson one or my W shaped wilson, i like the fact that it takes away the noise but it also takes away the feel

Not a member here, but ... respect. I have never played with a dampener, but if I did, I'd use a rubberband.

I've seen people use a grip finishing band woven in there. I've seen a guy use a piece of overgrip tied in a square knot. I've seen a grommet from a car part.

Anyone remember the old foam balls that looked like an Ellesse logo? Vibra-Zorb, iirc.

I've officially joined now too. I just demoed 8 racquets and there were rubber bands on several (along with regular dampeners). I saw no bonus in the regular dampeners.
